Chrono Cross: Introduction

What was the start of all this?
When did the cogs of fate begin to turn?

Perhaps it is impossible to grasp that answer now,
From deep within the flow of time...

But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
Whilst our laughter echoed,
Under cerulean skies...

The sequel to the ever-popular Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross is yet another one of Square's great RPGs. Unlike Chrono Trigger, which dealt with time travel, the story of Chrono Cross circulates around a cross-dimentional theme, where the times are the same, but the circumstances are different.

Serge, a 17 year old boy from Arni Village, suddenly has his life changed for him by some twist of fate. He is ripped from his Home World, and taken to Another World, which is a replica of his own, with some very obvious differences...

As things change in the new world he's in, circumstaces in his Home World change as well, and Serge finds himself forced to travel between the two worlds to right all the wrongs in both places and keep a sense of balance and order.

Along the way, he meets up with many different characters from both worlds, some good, and some evil. Many of them opt to join him on his quest, and aid you in your tasks. One young girl named Kid is of particular interest, as little is known about her, and she seems to have some past connections with Lynx, the villain of the story.

Chrono Cross is quite a bit different from lots of RPGs in a few aspects. First, there is no set party with which you must battle, and there are over 40 characters to choose from. There are also alternate endings to see, so that the ending of the game can be different each time you finish, if you do certain things while you play.

It's interesting to take the game from different approaches every time, using different characters, and doing different things to see how they effect the outcome of the game!
