A Father's Legacy Part 1 Calm Before the Storm The boy, only 16 years of age, sat against the large maple tree in his back yard, staring up at the old, rusted shuttle launchpad. His large white, long-sleeved shirt fluttered in the cool breeze that blew some of the leaves off of the tree above him. His large weapon sat, stuck into the earth next to him. His weapon was a large dual-sword, a sword hilt with a blade coming out of either end. He hadn't gained his fathers love of the spear, or his father's foul mouth, but he had gained his father's attitude, and his mother's tendency to double-check everything. The cool breeze felt good against his sweat-covered face. He had been outside in the hot summer afternoon training with his dual-sword. He was fairly good with it, but he could never beat his father whenever they sparred. He loved his weapon. He loved the rapidness at which he could hit his opponent, and he loved the physical demand it took to use it. He loved the fact that he had to keep getting stronger if he wanted to master it. "Lloyd! Get your lazy butt in here and wash up for dinner `fore I come out there give you a thrashin' that you'll never shake off!" the scream came from the back door of his house, which was not too far away from the launch-pad he was looking at. In fact, the launch-pad was in his back-yard. "Will you stop tormenting the boy!!" Lloyd heard his mother's voice come from inside the house. "I'm not tormenting him, Shera, I'm gettin' him ready for real life. Life ain't always gonna be easy on him," He heard his father's arguments. His parents always argued. They never became more than arguments, though. His father would never hit or abuse his mother, although they never did get along. Lloyd often wondered how they ever did get along long enough to have a son. He didn't disapprove of his parents or anything, he loved his parents. He just wished that they argue as much. Lloyd stood up to go inside, and pulled his dual-sword out of the ground. He walked in the house and hung his weapon on the pegs on the wall of his room. He walked into the bathroom and washed up. At dinner Shera hit Cid and Lloyd with some exciting news. "I got a letter from Cloud and Tifa in Nibelheim. They've got five tickets for the Gold Saucer, and they invited us to come with them!" Cid and Lloyd both froze "The.....Gold.....Saucer??" They both said in unison. "What's the matter? You look like a pair eight-year-olds who just got their first chocobo," Shera teased them. "I haven't been to the Gold Saucer in about sixteen years," Cid said. "I've never been to the Gold Saucer," Lloyd said. His parents could never afford to take him. Plus, they never really wanted travel that far. "We'll leave tomorrow morning, get to Nibelheim at night and stay at the inn overnight. The next day we'll leave with Cloud and Tifa for the Gold Saucer in the morning," Shera mapped out their itinerary. "Why don't we just stay at Cloud and Tifa's house?" Lloyd asked his mother. "I don't know. Cloud said we couldn't stay at their house, and he wouldn't tell me why." Lloyd found that very strange. He knew that Cloud and Tifa were very good family friends. They fought together with his dad to save the planet sixteen years ago. Once, they came over to Rocket Town, and Lloyd and Cloud sparred together. Lloyd lost horribly, but he learned a whole lot from Cloud, and Cloud seemed happy to teach him. Lloyd just let it go after a while. The next morning they saddled up their gold chocobos headed east toward Nibelheim. They reached their destination a little after dusk. Cloud and Tifa were waiting for them at the inn. They sat down with some coffee and caught up on old times. They stayed up late talking about this and about that. It was fairly late when Shera finally made them all turn in for the night. It was before dawn when they all got up and got ready to leave. It was about dawn when they finally got going. It normally would have taken them a while to get to the Gold Saucer, but their chocobos could climb mountains so they made excellent time. They spent the night at North Corral Village, and in the morning they rode the cable car to the Gold Saucer. When Lloyd first stepped into the Gold Saucer, his eyes lit up. He reacted just like his mom said he did when she told him that they were going. He looked like an eight-year-old who just got his first chocobo. The amusement park looked so lively and colorful. It was just how he had thought it would. The day was filled with fun and excitement. Even the adults had as much fun as a kid. Lloyd had brought his dual-sword with him so he could test himself in the battle arena. He did fairly well, but once he got to the eighth he got royally creamed. Cid mocked him as soon as he came out. "Ho! I would hate to have to depend on you in a real fight. Your mother could protect me better than you could. Ha, Ha, Ha!" Lloyd ignored him and ran off to go to the arcade. The rest of the day went great, everyone had a fantastic time. Cloud won some money betting on chocobo races. They went on the gondola ride just before they left. Cid didn't go on at all, Cloud went with Tifa, and Lloyd went with his mother, Shera. Tifa was walking toward the lobby when she suddenly stopped, a look of shock and horror on her face. "What's wrong?!" Cloud asked. "I don't know, I just got a strange feeling like.... I can't really explain it." What Tifa didn't know was that that feeling was a premonition. A premonition of something evil, something very, very evil. Evil that hasn't been seen or heard of for sixteen years. To Be Continued.....
