Chapter 3: Sorrow Shows no
Mercy
Tyloric paced uneasily,
his feet had begun to fall numb due to the frill air, which had just recently
inherited the room. It seemed as if the entire temple had fallen to an uneasy
chill. It was unnerving. He’d been alone for at least 2 sun movements, and soon
the moon would cast its darkened spell onto the land.
Sunset slowly crept over
the temple, darkness striking ever so suddenly, like a plague, attacking
weather it’s victims are ready or not. He was unsure how this had all started,
was it when he ran away? When he saw his father kill his mother? When his dad
hit him for the first time? When he was born? When? Why? What if someone came
looking for him? He wanted to go home, but at the same time, he wished he could
stay here... If only mom were here...Damn it, he should have waited and planned
this out a little more.
He muttered a curse under
his breath silently. He was ashamed of himself, of his life, of his own damn
stupidity.
He shuttered, it felt like
the room got colder. It had to be at least 75 crenen, that’s not a temperature
for a desert, was it?
His head throbbed in pain.
He could feel the blood rush through his veins, gushing through them in a
never-ending cycle. It made his head feel like it was going to explode.
He sat down and leaned
back against the rough stonewalls. He groaned, nothing was coming out the way
he had wanted it too, this was going all wrong. He was hoping he could have
gotten through the desert by going in a straight line with out stopping, but
then he got injured.
He lie back on the lumpy
bed, and told himself the story of the Trio of Dragon’s again.
Bahamut, ruler of the
mountains and caves
Neo Bahamut, guardian of
the skies
Bahamut Zero, king of the
three, protector of the planet
But it wasn’t true. None
of it was. They were just some bedtime story used to put children to sleep when
the moon ruled shone dimly in the sky. Worst of all, the story didn’t make him
smile... not this time...
“Why is all this
happening?” he thought aloud.
“Whys all what happening?”
Dagon asked after creeping slowly up behind Tyloric.
Tyloric jumped back in
utter shock, “Uh- Nothing. Nothings happening. Nope. Heheh... How, um... how
long have you – uh – been standing there?”
“Are you feeling ok?”
Dagon asked, dumbfounded.
“I’m fine... just...
Hungry! Yeah, that’s right. I’m hungry.” Tyloric stuttered nervously.
“Your sure your not
feeling ok? It’s my duty as a guardian to make sure you’re alright.”
“No. Really. I’m feeling fine.”
Tyloric slurred the end of the sentence.
“OK... I’ll go see if
theirs anything for you to eat.”
“That’s ok. I’m not
hungry.” Tyloric stated simply.
“But you just said-” Dagon
began.
“I’m fine!” he
snapped.
“I’m not buying. What’s
up?”
“Nothings up!” Tyloric
made it no secret he didn’t want to talk about it.
“Liar. Now either you tell
me what’s bothering you, or I through you out in the desert all alone.” The
loyal guard threatened.
Tyloric leaned in closer
to the armored looking man’s figure, “You wouldn’t dare.”
“Try me.”
“It’s my business! Why do
you care?”
“Because I can. Now tell
me. Why are you so frustrated?” Dagon persisted.
“I was just thinking of
home! OK!?” Tyloric growled.
“Strange, thinking of home
usually makes people more at ease.”
“Not my home.”
“Keep talking.”
“No.” He firmly said.
“We can do this as long as
you want. Trust me, I can wait a long time. I’ve been hear for more than a
century, I know patience.”
“It’s my business. Leave
me alone. I’d be happy to leave,” Tyloric’s eyes filled with tears, but he
refused to look in the direction of the guardian.
There was a long silence
after that. Dagon just stood there next to Tyloric’s bed and Tyloric just sat
there. He eventually repositioned himself so that he was under the thin blankets
on the lumpy bed, but it was warm enough for right now. Dagon decided to break
the silence, he kneeled down on one knee and took one of Tyloric’s hands into
both of his.
“Please tell me.”
Tyloric turned to look at
Dagon. Dagon’s eyes were pleading. At least, he thought they were, it was hard
to tell. But Dagon’s eyes were yellow with an orange tint in them now. Earlier
they had just been pure yellow.
“Please don’t make me.
It... Just hurts to much...”
Dagon stared at him for a
moment, before nodding in understandingly. Tyloric had tears streaming down his
face. He leaned over and buried his face in Dagon’s chest. Dagon was startled
by this action, and just stared down at the sniffling boy with his arms open,
before hesitantly wrapping his arms around him. He crawled up next to Tyloric
in the bed, but didn’t lie down. He sat straight up but never loosened his grip
of the teen.
What could have caused
someone so much pain to the point of crying spontaneously? He hadn’t told him
anything and all he had to do was think about it, and he had begun weeping.
What could have caused such a thing?
“Forgive me.” Dagon
whispered, “I was just trying to help.”
Tyloric just nodded into
his chest, he couldn’t look at the guardians face. He had not the will or
strength to. He felt awkward about being so close to someone he had just met,
even worse someone of the same sex. He
hadn’t wanted things to come out this way. But he hadn’t know what he wanted to
happen in the first place.
Maybe the planet would be
better off without him. Maybe his existence had been a mistake. He couldn’t
even hear the planet anymore, no matter how hard he tried to talk to the
planet, the planet never responded.
Maybe he just wasn’t
wanted.
Time went on, and Tyloric
drifted into a dreamless sleep.
---
Dagon was unsure of what
to do. Tyloric had fallen asleep, and he was afraid to move of fear of waking
him. But he had to attend to his normal duties; he had to protect the temple!
What had upset Tyloric so?
Everything was happening so fast. The boy had only been here for but a few
hours, and he had only been gone for 1 or 2 sun movements! What could have
happened in such a short amount of time?
-You seem torn.-
-Do
not bother me right now.-
-Do not worry. This is turning out just as I wanted
it to.-
-What do you mean?-
-You will understand in
good time.-
-But...-
-Rest.-
-I
do not sleep, remember?-
-You will on this
night.-
-What?-
-Rest.-
For
the first time in hundreds of years, Dagon slept peacefully.
