He could only watch as Sephiroth walked slowly towards him, sword raised, cape billowing in the wind. He was defenceless, his broadsword in pieces on the ground next to him. Completely useless. As Sephiroth drew close Cloud saw his own reflection in those cold eyes, he also saw something else, death! He had to do something. With one final effort he pulled himself to his feet, he wasn’t going to die on the ground like a common dog. He looked his would be killer straight in the eye as Sephiroth pulled back his long gleaming sword and plunged it straight into Clouds heart. Strange, Cloud thought as the world dissolved into blackness, he was sure he could hear a faint humming. ************************************************************************* He opened his eyes and twisted over on the cool metal floor, his clothes drenched in sweat. Above him the ceiling was also strangely metal. Then it hit him, he was on the Highwind. The engines hummed melodiously in the background as he slowly got to his feet. That dream again. He had been having it a lot lately, ever since he had struck Sephiroth down in the Northern Crater. He walked slowly through the large gleaming corridors deep in thought, and with a start realised that he had walked on to the main Bridge. Most of his companions were in their usual spots, Cid Highwind the captain of the ship stood gazing out of the large glass panel at the front of the giant craft. Next to him stood Barret Wallace, a hulk of a man who was busy cleaning the large gattling gun that was grafted onto his arm- a relic from his troubled past. Cloud turned and saw Red X111 lying curled up in under a small metal staircase. When he had first met this fire-red beast Cloud had been fearful of him. However as he got to know him he found that Red was more intelligent than anyone he had ever known and not a threat at all to those he counted as friends. Leaning on a wall near Red was Vincent Valentine, a dark, brooding and mysterious man whom Cloud knew very little about but who was an invaluable asset to their group. There was no sign of the others; they were probably still asleep below. So ya finally got your spikey-headed-ass out of bed, Barret growled when he looked up and saw him. We’ve still got to be vigilante, there’s still a lot of danger out there! Cloud had to fight back a smile, this was the Barret he knew, always slightly paranoid. Don’t be such a grouch, sang a high cheery voice from behind Cloud. He turned and found Yuffie Kisaragi, a 16-year-old ninja who was always arrogant and selfish to the extreme. You’d think we deserve a bit of a rest after saving the world! Barret snorted and started cleaning his gun again; it was no secret that Barret resented the fact that a girl of such young age was with them, although it his judgement was hardly reliable as his young daughter Marlene was also travelling with them. Although he hadn’t really spent much time with her, leaving most of the babysitting to Tifa. Tifa Lockheart was a pretty childhood friend of Cloud’s whom he had re-met after joining Avalanche, a resistance movement against Shinra. Inc. His relationship with her was complicated to say the least and he spent a lot of time avoiding her. He couldn’t deny he had feelings for her but there had also been A sharp voice broke into his thoughts and with a big effort he pulled himself back to the real world. What the Hell is that? The next thing Cloud knew, the floor moved from under him and he was flying through the air. He landed hard on his shoulder, on the unforgiving metal floor and winced as he stood up. Everyone else was on the floor except Cid who having shouted the warning had also had time to grab onto a small metal strut. Cloud struggled over Barret who was trying to get up and stood next to Cid. What happened?, he asked him still trying to make sense of had just taken place. It was a damn chopper, Harris had to bank to port to avoid it, replied Cid pointing to the young, ashen-faced pilot. But that’s not the problem, do you know what type of chopper that was? his voice was grim, the cigarette that was common to his appearance dangling loosely in his mouth. It was a Shinra Chopper. This shocked Cloud deeper than anything had in a long while, How can it be Shinra? There’s no-one left from that organisation! I don’t know but I’m sure as hell gonna find out, said Barret struggling to his feet, where was it heading? Midgar, said Cloud quietly. The others turned to look at him. Don’t ask me how I know, it’s just a feeling I have. Cid didn’t need to hear more; he simply turned to Harris, Set a course for Midgar Immediately! To be continued... ******************************************************************* Well that’s that. Sorry it’s a bit slow but it will get better soon if you just stick with me! Please check out the next chapter whenever I put it up!
