Chapter Six:Past Memories.

Seifer slashed out at the Grat before it got a chance to use its sleep 
attack.Then Raijin gave it a whack and it collapsed to the ground.
"You're losin' it,Seifer,ya know?" said Raijin as he turned to the 
bothered teenager.
"That's 'cause this Training Center is too boring!"
"Doesn't look like it is..." said Raijin,and got a kick from Fujin.She 
looked at Seifer enquiringly.
"WHY?"
"Why what?" replied Seifer,walking off.
Fujin sighed,then started talking in the way she rarely used, Something's 
worrying you,Seifer.What is it?"
"Yeah,we can help ya,ya know?" added Raijin,moving away from Fujin to 
avoid being kicked again.
Seifer stopped and ran a hand in his blonde hair with a sigh.He turned to 
his friends.
"Are we training or what?"
When he didn't get a respond,only stares,he lowered his gunblade.
"Look,I can handle it,okay?It's something I just can't tell you.I'm 
sorry."
Fujin looked at Raijin,who nodded.She continued in her cryptic way,
"AGREED."
"Heh heh heh.Whatever,ya know?" Raijin said.
He couldn't avoid the kick in time.

Squall was walking to the library when he saw Rikku heading to the 
Parking Lot,tugging on fingerless gloves onto her hands.She took out a small 
bundle of keys,threw them up,and caught them back,repeating the action.
Squall frowned and hurried his steps."Rikku!"
She turned,her green eyes surprised.She stopped and waited until Squall 
approached her.
"Where do you think you're going?I thought you're supposed to be in 
class!" he said.
"Nope,I'm free now.And I'm going for a ride.Hicom needs some exercise,and 
so do I," Rikku replied,cool.
'Oh geez,she acts as if that thing's alive!' "Well,you can't go out 
witho--"
"I already have Headmaster Cid's permission.Good day!" With that,she left 
him speechless and disappeared behind the doors.
"That girl has a hell of a nerve..." muttered Squall,abashed.

Rikku put on her helmet as she swung herself lightly ont the 
motorbike.Starting the engine,she tested the brakes and was about to ride 
off when a figure appeared in front of her.She looked up and immediatel 
averted her eyes.
"Do you mind?" she muttered grumpily,pushing up the glass of her helmet.
Nida smoothed back his hair and exhaled."Where're you going?" he asked.
"Somewhere you don't have to know."
"Look,Rikku,what happened the last--"
"I don't wanna hear anything from you."
"--2 years was a mistake.You can't--"
"Get out of my way."
"--keep avoiding me and giving me the--"
"I said,get OUT of my way." Her tone was hard and cold,though it wasn't 
loud.Nida stopped and lowered his eyes with a sigh.
"Why can't you just--" began Nida again,but Rikku pushed back the helmet 
glass and gripped the bike handles firmly,starting off with a loud screech 
from the tyres.The noice echoed,cutting Nida short.He stared at the 
disappearing bike and continued softly,"--listen to me."
He stood there for a few minutes before going back to his dorm.

She couldn't help the growing tears in her eyes.As she sped on faster,the 
tranquil blue of the ocean caught her attention.She slowed down and stopped 
Hicom at the beach.
Taking off her helmet,Rikku rested her eyes on the slow rolls of the 
waves.She got off the bike,walking towards a huge rock.She climbed up and 
sat herself down,hving a clear view of the wide ocean.She could even see an 
unclear and farawar part of her hometown,FH.
Rikku had told herself a million times to forget about what happened 
between Nida and her.But everytime she saw him,past emotions overwhelmed 
her.The feeling of hurt...betrayed...and fooled..returned.
Once again,her eyes grew moist.She couldn't help it.As she rested her 
head on a knee,she sobbed softly.
Rikku sat there,alone and silent,until the evening sun went down and star 
began to twinkle on the dark sky.
Only then did she get off the rock and ride back to Garden.

Chapter Seven:Revelations

"Okay,here goes," mumbled Rinoa,looking at Squall who was training with 
Zell and Irvine in the Training Center.She approached them and smiled when 
them and smiled when they turned.
"Hey.Squall,can I talk to you for a sec?"
"Sure," Squall replied,noticing her serious tone.He looked at Zell and 
Irvine,saying,"Be right back,guys."
"Hey,take your time,man!" Zell pulled Irvine away."Later!"
Squall turned to Rinoa."Yeah?"
"Can we,like,go somewhere more lonely?"
He raised his eyebrows."Oh...sure.How 'bout the 'Secret Area'?"
"Huh?"
"It's a place where students meet after curfew.Nobody would be there 
now."
"Oh..okay." Rinoa followed Squall to the place.There,he stood and looked 
at her enquiringly.She composed herself and took a deep breath.
"Squall...I have to tell you something...important.."
"Yeah?You sound really....serious..."
"It's mostly about Seifer."
Her boyfriend's face darkened and he averted his eyes."What about him?"
'Oh God!Help me!!' Rinoa groaned in her heart."It was during the SeeD
field exam.He was attacked by a Malboro and would have been dead...if it
wasn't for me..."
Squall looked at her,his blue eyes in vague."What are you saying?"
Rinoa sighed and clenched her fist."I helped him.I killed the Malboro and 
recovered him."
Squall just stared at her."You helped him?" His voice was in disbelief.
"I know it's gainst the rules,but I just couldn't ignore him like 
that.Please,Squall,it wasn't his fault."
Squall turned away again,silent.
"You're not going to penalize him,are you?"
"No.Like you said,it wasn't his fault." Squall looked at Rinoa,his eyes 
and voice hardening.The next sentence stabbed her heart like a dagger.
"It was yours,Rinoa."
She stared back at him,shocked."Squall,I'm sor--"
"Don't be sorry,'cause the damage is already done.He's already a SeeD."
"Squall,really,I didn't mean to--" Her eyes were already forming 
tears,but Squall cut her off coldly.
"You still love him,Rinoa.That's why you saved him."
"No,I just--"
"I'm outta here." Squall left her without another word.She stared after 
him,tears rolling down her cheeks.She couldn't believe Squall had just said 
that to her.It sounded weird....weird and painful.
As she leaned against the wall and sobbed,a phrase echoed in her mind.
*You still love him,Rinoa.*
She sobbed more.

From his hiding place on the tree,Seifer observed the crying girl.His 
heart softened as her sobbing grew louder.He saw everything.....how she told 
Squall,how he brushed her off,and how she tried to convince Squall,that it 
wasn't his,Seifer's,fault.
He also noticed the hurt look in her eyes when Squall walked off.
Jumping down from the tree he stood,Seifer approached Rinoa silently,his 
feet not making even a sound.
She was still crying,her forehead rested on her knees.
Seifer knelt down and touched her hair lightly."Rinoa?You okay?"
She looked up,her eyes red.When she saw him,she hastily wiped her tears 
and turned away."I'm alright,"
she muttered,but her voice said the opposite.
Seifer looked doubtful,and he countered,"You sure?You don't look so--"
"Seifer,I'm alright," Rinoa repeated,then added softly."Just a 'lil' 
upset,that's all."
He stuided her for a moment as he gently stroked her cheek with the back 
of his fingers.She stared at him in amazement before pulling back an inch.
"What're you doing?" she demanded.
Shocked at his own action,he snatched his hand back and got 
up."Nothing.I'll walk you to your room,if you
li--"
"I think I can handle myself,Seifer.I don't want Squall seeing us 
together," Rinoa replied cautiously,standing up.
Seifer waved his hand."Have it your way."
She stopped for a while before walking."Umm...see you later."
"Uh,yeah..."
As Rinoa left him,he ran a hand in his hair and exhaled heavily.
'What was I doing?And why am I having this...this...disappointed feeling 
that she didn't want me to walk her to her dorm?It's her right to 
decline...so....what is this I'm feeling?' Seifer thought,closing his eyes 
and taking a deep breath.He had never felt that way before.....and he had 
NEVER wanted someone's company that badly.What was he feeling?
Seifer lowered himself onto the ground and clutched his head.He didn't 
want to think anymore.
