Lost Within Blood and Tears Squaresoft owns characters Chapter 9- Friend and Foe "Regardless of warnings The future doesn't scare me at all. Nothing's like before." -Utada Hikaru The tension between the two girls grew to be so thick that a carving knife would be needed to slice through it. The women stared each other down, neither willing to show any sign of weakness to the other. TRhey even condemed the act of blinking not willing to take their eyes of their opponent for even that amount of time. The tension got to be too much for Seifer as the women stood locked in silent battle. Seifer walked up to Kayonna and sliping his arm over her shoulder he pulled her back, almost restraining her, away from the other girl and slid the daggers out of Kayonna's palms. Zell took a few protective steps back towards Chani. She put the arrow she had drawn back into the sheathe on her back as she swung her beautifully carved bow back onto her shoulder once again. "Just listen to her okay?" Zell said to them all, paying special attenytion to Kayonna who was still struggling to free herself from Seifer's restraining arm. He turned around and faced Chani. "Just tell them what you told me okay? You'll be fine I won't let anything happen to you." Zell said placing his hands reassuringly on her shoulders and looking into the panicking girl's eyes. "First of all who is he, how did she get here, and how did she end up with a chickenwuss like you?" Seifer interrogated almost irritated with Zell already. "She was a prisoner here." Zell answered for her. "We had a prisoner?" Both Seifer and Kayonna asked simultaneously and looked at each other. "Yeah she was locked up in a cell when I found her. A guard killed her father. He also metioned something about me and her being executed. We did some number on his head to escape." Zell answered puzzeled by their innocent bewilderment. "What was she doing in there and why didn't we know about it?" Kayonna asked Seifer perplexed. He in turn demanded the same of Zell. "That's what she's going to tell you if you will only listen to her." Zell shot back protectively. He looked into the girl's eyes again comfortingly. "Go ahead. You can do it." He mouthed to her. She closed her eyes, a million things running through her head at once. Pain kept trying to shroud her in its bleakness as she tried to push everything away and concentrate on the task at hand. A deep shaky breath was heard as she began the tramatic saga that was her life. "I was born and raised in the Kamla tribe on this Monerabi Basin. I was born into the lower end of the heirachery of the tribe, a commoner if you will. Being born into the lower end I went unnoticed. My father called it a gift, I called it a curse. I would have these visions I guess in which I go into a trance and see things. I mainly see snatches of things like pieces of a puzzle but sometimes there are things that are more clear. My mother was murdered when I was a baby, a tragedy of war; just another victim. I was given her necklace, this one, and from then on the visions came to me. My father said that the visions ran in the family but they were only really brought about with the necklace, the amathist crystal, and only occured in girls. Because of this he wanted to keep me protected at all costs and being unnoticed was my best protection. Anyway one day I was chased down like a doe within my own village. A dog went rabid and chased me, a small girl of eight. I ran and ran until the end. I survived. The prince i guess you wuold call him, of the tribe spotted me and saw the chase. He was deeply impressed that I had indeed survive and decided to make me a warrior because of my natural speed and knack for survival. What the Prince commands no one could go against so my father couldn't go against the decision for me to be a warrior. He had no choice, he had to let me go. I was trained how to use a bow and arrow. I found out I was naturally gifted in combat and so attention began turning towards me. My father worried that my visions couldn't go unnoticed for much longer so he brought me into a room one day and showed me my mother's greatest secret. The true reason she was killed. She had chronicaled the past what had really happened. Kalla, the leader of the village had won leadership long ago by using the evil powers of darkness and trickery. After he gained power he purged the village of everyone over the age of seven killing them all. With this he brainwashed the remaining children and created a society loyal only to him. Any opposition was removed and he stayed in power. "My mother and father were babies at the time so they didn't remember the truth. My mother had come across it in a letter written to her by her mother before she had been killed. She tried to oppose the rule of Kalla and bring peace once again to the basin. She was killed. My father hid my mother's secret and so he told me about it. He also told my brother. He was killed. "Kalla is planning and plotting more evil plans again. He grows thin with hunger for power. He allied himself with evil accomplices which he plans to use to achieve his goals. He wants to conquer all of Monerabi, thus the war, then his posion will spread, diffusing out until he has the entire world in his grasp. "Kalla has powers to find things out. I didn't find out right away about the fact that I knew these tihngs but that was the last straw. Kalla had actually became quite captivated by me and I refused to give him any sort of satisfaction. I was to be banished but he thought of better things. He then found out about the fact that I was the only one who could hurt him, I was the only one who knew the truth. He couldn't just kill me straight out, I was too well known and respected within the tribe for murder. Instead he set up this attack to say I had died in battle. Meanwhile he had made a deal with this member of your tribe about a week ago and kept me in the cell. He was suposed to kill me after the attack. "I was there until Zell came. The guy murdered my father in cold blood when he came to save me." This last part of her narrative was said with much passion in her voice. All were amazed to see the young girl standing difiant in front of them. Her eyes glowed with a fire and fury all their own giving her a luster that shrouded her. "I will do anything to free myself and my people. Peace is long overdue." At this Kayonna stood up and walked proudly over to the woman. She placed her hand over the girl's plam and understanding passed between the two. An allience was formed between the women as they each hugged the other in the firendship they had found and the bond they had formed. They understood each other and vowed to help. "Ummm hate to interupt but what exactly are we going to do about it." Irvine interjected. Seifer shot him a look of death. "Stop him and end this war." both Kayonna and Chani said simply. "Oh that should be easy." Irvine said sarcastically. "How are we planning on doing this?" Squall asked specifically. "Same way you fight any war... cut off the supplies." Rinoa explained, her eyes widening not in excitement but in revealation. "He has outside sources helping him right? Well we hit and knock off his accomplices swiftly, silently and one by one." Rinoa finished decidedly. "Then it's decided." Kayonna said. "Where's our first target?"
