'Amalgamation by Draco - RE. (cospolo@cospolo.f9.co.uk) Ermm.... Where to start, this is my first FanFic.. I thought I would give it a go. The FanFIc is pretty small (I didn't want to get in way over my head). All I can say is its sort of a on me own thing, set just after FF8 with the same Characters etc, but not following the same line of play. Also the usually stuff like Squall Leonhart , Rinoa Heartilly , Zell Dincht ,Irvine Kinneas and Quistis Trepe are all trademark of Squaresoft inc. No copyright intended on anything ...... I'll shut up and let you get on with it......dont forget to mail me with comments etc ..hope you enjoy! "AMALGAMATION" 'Prologue' It was a day like any other - except this beings eyes didn't know of day, only night. For you see its world is nearly always dark, only broken occasionally by light brought by saving graces. The small room that was this creature's world for what had felt like an eternity was the only place that its ever-growing hunger knew of. It couldn't tell you how it had got there only that it was. However, this living monstrosity was not alone, there were others; they too lived in there own world surrounded by darkness, living in a world, which was to be their hell for eternity. Every day and night it didn't matter which, snarls and growls of pain and frustration could be heard through the thick damp, ever present walls of this monsters domain. However this monster was different, smarter and it had an urge that it didn't yet know what it was. It just sat there on the faeces ridden floor waiting, for it knew that its time was near. It could sense its freedom redemption was close. 'Chapter 1 - Vacation' It had been six month since Squall and his comrades had defeated Ultemecia. Rinoa and Squall were now closer together than they had ever been and people often wondered how they would cope they were ever parted. Rinoa had now become a member of garden and was working with Dr Kadowski. Her caring and loveable nature made her a good counsellor for all who attended Balamb Garden. She excelled in this role, being able to listen to people's problems and getting them to open up to her. God knows she's had enough practice with Squall. Rinoa was currently stood at the southern entrance to Esthar. Along side her were the rest of the gang, except Squall. Selphie was currently giving Rinoa a hug, bidding her farewell. "Look Selphie, there's no need to get all emotional, we're only going for a week" Rinoa commented as she rapped her arms around Selphie. "I know, I know" Selphie replied "but I look at the changes you made to Squall and the way you go about things when your relationship gets a little rocky, its an inspiration to me" Rinoa had been getting a little agitated over the past couple of months. She wasn't used to the SeeD lifestyle, all the people constantly doing things. She and Squall hadn't had the time together that she had hoped for. The village that they were going to visit would be perfect, quiet, no one to bother them to be free again not tied down to something. She couldn't wait, her body filled with the excitement of it all. "Enjoy yourself, don't do anything I wouldn't do" Selphie said to Rinoa as she pulled away from her. "Come on Selphie, she wants to have some fun on this vacation" Irvine quipped. Selphie let go of Rinoa and Punched Irvine in the stomach. "Ow, I love it when get angry. It makes you look sexy" Irvine chuckled. "Where's Squall, he should be hear" Rinoa asked, "we are leaving I a bit" "He's gone to see Laguna" Quistis replied "OH, bet that's gonna be a fun discussion" Zell remarked, "Why he's gone to see him" he asked "I don't know" Quistis replied back, "Laguna said he wanted to speak to him before he left, thats all I know. Guess we'll find out when he gets back" "Speak of the devil, here he comes now" Rinoa said with an excited tint in her voice. Squall walked over to the group, he could see that they had noticed him and Rinoa gave him a little wave. Squall had been confused when Rinoa started getting agitated and irritating. In fact he had gone to Irvine for some help on the situation, that's when Irvine had suggested that they go away for a while, just the two of them, to try and rekindle the passion that they had had when they first met. He was also concerned after his little meeting with his father Laguna. This was his vacation, just him and Rinoa and Laguna had the cheek of asking him to do some work for him. That goddamn Professor Odine, he thought to himself. Why didn't they just chuck him in prison after the war? Instead they let him carry on doing what he does and now the Laguna is concerned that he's up to something. "What's wrong love?" Rinoa asked as Squall came over to them "You don't look to happy, what did Laguna say to you?" "Oh, nothing" he replied, "shall we leave, were running a bit late already". "Always the great conversationalist" Irvine smirked, "Well your two love birds better get going, or me and Selphie will be going instead". With that Squall put his bag into the back of the car and got into the driver's seat. All the gang stood by the side of the road and waved as Squall and Rinoa drove South away from Esthar. "Where are they going anyway?" Zell asked as the car pulled away with a cloud of smoke. Selphie answered "A village that appeared after the war, called Calydon I think its about 3 hours drive away directly south", "Right then chaps," Irvine Interrupted "We better get back to the garden" The group walked towards the Ragnorak that was waiting for them at the Airstation. The village that Squall and Rinoa were heading towards had appeared since the Sorceress war had ended. Some individuals and families who had been living in Esthar wanted to go back to the old way of living and decided to go and built a new village. They chose the location as it was not to far from; and far enough away from Esthar and there was a plush forest right next door. 'Chapter 2 - Redemption' The 3 assistants and one guard waked down the dark corridor, the first assistant shining his torch on each door as they passed, checking the numbers. The corridor was long, about 50 metres or so and it was littered with metallic doors. Each door was about 2 metres apart and about the same in height. Each one had a hatch and number at head height. At each end of the corridor was a door leading into separate rooms, there was no light except that been shone by the torch that the first assistant held. The walls were damp and covered in moss; shrieks and snarls could be heard reverberating through the doors and walls of the corridor. The guard was carrying a dart gun, and several darts attached to a belt around his waist. The assistant with the torch had a set of keys and the remaining two assistants had nets and restraints in rucksacks. "This is the one," the man with the keys said, as he shone the torch on the number of one of the doors. The door was about two thirds down the corridor and all four men congregated outside it. The two with the rucksacks unloaded all the equipment that they carried. The one with the gun got a dart from his belt and placed it into the gun, which he now carried tightly. The first man with the keys unlocked and opened the hatch that was in the door to the cell. He shone his torch inside making sure he kept his body and face well away from the hole. He searched all over the floor of the cell, which was 3 metres wide and not much more in length. He turned to face the guard with the gun. "It's empty," he said with a concerned look on his face. "It cant be" the man with the gun replied "look again". He shone his torch around the cell one more time, as he was doing so an object passed the path of light radiating from the torch. He looked at where the object landed. It was some sort of liquid; it looked like water, as he had this thought in his head, another drop hit the floor. He moved his torch up-wards in the direction from witch the drops were coming from. As his torch reached the ceiling he gasped in astonishment at what he saw. Their hanging upside down on the ceiling was the creature that they had come to collect. Its head leant back-wards looking at the white face of the man at the door, teeth bared to its full extent and saliva dripped from its gaping mouth. It's just stared at the man, eyes not moving, not blinking. He moved his torch along the body of the monstrosity hanging on the ceiling. He could see the muscles of the beast tensed from the strain of hanging upside down on a horizontal surface. He called for the man with the dart gun to come over. "Right, be care full wear you hit it, the Dr doesn't want it killed" he told the same man. The man with the gun positioned himself, at the hole in the door and pointed the gun inside while the other man continued to shine his torch at the ceiling. He got his the monster in his sites and fired the gun. The monster fell from the ceiling instantly, not making a sound nor an attempt to avoid the dart. It just landed on the floor and laid there, still. "How much did you use?" one of the men asked the shooter. "Only the required dosage" he replied "it obviously can't take it like the others" "Well its down and that's what we wanted, so lets get in their; tie it up and get out of here" one of the men with the rucksacks shouted. The man who had the torch shone it at the body of the creature. All he could see was the slow breathing motions of the monster's stomach going up and down. The guard with the gun loaded in another dart and nodded at the man with the keys to open the door. He unlocked the door and slowly opened it. As he was doing this the other man kept the gun pointed at the figure on the floor at all times and the assistants with the rucksacks started to gather up the equipment and follow him. The guard entered first, slowly edging towards the beast, gun pointed at its body every step. The other three men entered after him. All four men were now stood around the body. One of the assistants got a strap and started to wrap it around the head of the beast. Then suddenly the creature jumped up from it's lying position and knocked the man to the floor with immense power. The man with the gun aimed it at the creature; but it was gone. "What the fuck" he half shouted and screamed "where'd it go" The man that had opened the door panicked, dropped the torch and ran out of the cell. The guard made the mistake of turning to shout him back. As he turned to face the door of the cell, he felt a heavy object fall onto his back. The weight knocked him to the floor. As suddenly as he had fallen to the ground he felt a pain in his head and then darkness. The two assistants were just about to chase after the guard who had fled when the creature fell from the ceiling and landed on the back of their co-worker and knocked him to the ground. Then they froze in horror as it swiftly and effortlessly smashed its fist into the back of his head, crushing the skull like an egg. Blood and brain shot out and splattered in an arc around the top of the mans now distorted skull. The two men just stood still in horror; the monster turned to face two men, who were stood shaking in the corner of the cell. It turned and slowly walked towards them sensing that they were no threat. The creature then leapt at both of the men smashing into and knocking them to the ground. One got to his feet quickly and ran towards the cell door; he didn't look back when he heard the screams of the man he had just left behind. As the man screamed the whole complex erupted into a frenzy of shrieks and roars, all the other creatures became agitated in their cells and starts to bang against there cell doors. The man just had quickly swiped the torch from of the floor as he passed it and was now running down the corridor pointing the torch ahead of him. The noise was ear piercing and starting to make his head hurt. He could just make out the figure of a man moving agitatedly at the door in the distance. As he went to shout the man he felt something brush his legs, he panicked and fell to the ground, the torch falling from his grasp and spinning to shine in his eyes. The man had reached the door a while back, but because he had dropped his torch he couldn't see the lock properly, as he was fumbling a light had appeared behind him which gave him precious seconds to get the key in the lock and open the door. As he opened the door, something knocked him to the ground; he turned just in time to see a hand of some sort come towards his face with power and speed, then nothing. The man got to his feet and grabbed the torch; he shone it in front of him, back towards the door. He could see light coming through. The door was open the other guy must have escaped, he started to run as he got closer he could see something lying on the floor keeping the door propped open. As tried to focus something blocked his view all together, there stood in the doorway was the creature. It had got ahead of him; he stopped in his tracks on just stared at the monstrosity that was between him and the doorway. The creature began to move, slowly walking towards him. He shone the torch on the body of the beast and he could see the muscles, this thing was all muscle he thought to himself. That is when he knew. The creature walked towards him, confidently, showing no fear, the assistant knew there was nothing he could do, the creature knew that this was it, this was its Redemption. 'Chapter 3 - Arrival' Rinoa fidgeted in her seat. She had been asleep the whole journey down to Calydon. He looked at Rinoa asleep next like he had done plenty of time during the journey. He had being reminiscing all the way down from Esthar. He couldn't believe the war was 6 months ago, it felt like only yesterday, people had already rebuilt the lives and getting on with them. He drove passed a sign that said welcome to Calydon. The words 'A new life, for old people' was etched underneath. He nudged Rinoa who scrunched her eyebrows in annoyance at been woken up. She turned her head; her hair stuck out to the sides and a red mark on her cheek where she had been resting on the car. Squall laughed at the site of her. "I hate car journeys" she snapped "Well you should be OK then, you slept through the whole of" Squall commented "So we here, which house we staying at?" she asked Squall pulled around a corner and they were confronted with a house about twice the size of Zell's mothers in Balamb. "This is it" he remarked He pulled up and parked the car that he's borrowed from Laguna outside. He got out and went around to the boot to get the bags. Rinoa stepped out of the car and looked around. It was just had she had imagined. The house was situated on a street with about 10 others all spread out. Behind the house they were staying at was nothing, just fields, and then barren desert. At the other side of the street was another house and behind that the rest of the village. IT didn't stretch very far, just about 100 metres or so. She's read somewhere that there was a petrol station and various shops in the centre. A bit Like Winhill except the house spiralled outwards from the centre and length ways. At the other side eof the village was the forest, she could see the top of the tress above the houses. It was beautiful, the sun was shining, and there was a slight breeze, she smiled, this is what she came for. Squall put the bags down at the entrance to the gate and looked at Rinoa. She was stood looking at their surroundings she was smiling. This made him smile; he couldn't believe how beautiful she was. Here hair was blowing softly in the window along with the bottom of here now ever-present blue dress. He started to think again, whether him meeting Rinoa and that being close to her was such a good thing. She had promised never to leave him and that would be together forever, but could he ever believe this, should he feel for someone the way he felt for Ellone, those many years ago. Rinoa turned and saw Squall looking at her. She spun around to face him. Squall immediately put on a serious face and went red, embarrassed at the fact that she has seen him. Rinoa thought to herself. After all they had been through Squall was still as stubborn as ever. However she often caught him in this dream worlds of his. Thinking about things, he never told her what he thought about, when she asked he would just turn away and mumbled the words nothing. Rinoa went up to squall. "Well we better go and introduce ourselves, she's expecting us" Rinoa said. Rinoa had done all the work of finding someone to stay with. Someone in Esthar told her that she new an old women that came down here to live She had taken her 2 sons with her, but they soon moved back to Esthar missing the big city life, so she now lived in a big house all on her own. Plus she would welcome the company. Before Squall and Rinoa even had chance to get through the gate the women came out of the door, obviously hearing the noise of the car and coming out to the meet them. "Hello" she said, "I'm Argia, welcome…welcome to my home. Please bring your bags inside, are you hungry I can fix you something to eat" Squall didn't say anything. He wasn't keen on the idea of staying with an old person, he wasn't much of a socialist anyway never mind having to listen to an old persons all the time. He had kind of hoped they would go out all the time to check out the scenery, maybe home up his fighting skills with a couple of monsters while he was here. But Rinoa had told him that they had to show hospitality and spend a couple of nights with her. Rinoa replied to the women. "Thank you very much Argia, some food would be fine" Rinoa continued "My boyfriend Squall will just be freshening up, then I think we will be going out to get a fell for the place, if that's ok with you" The women's face sort of had a look of disappointment on it, as though she had expected them to stay and talk to her. She then smiled. "Of course, that would be fine, I'll show you to your rooms and then get your food ready" With these they followed the women inside. The old women stood at the door and waved good bye at the two as they got into the car and drove towards the centre of town, Rinoa turned to Squall "Very nice lady don't you think " "Yeah! If your into that sort of thing" he exclaimed. "Well have to stop off and get some petrol on the way, that journey down here has run us a bit dry" "Ok" Rinoa answered They pulled up to the petrol station, just as another car was leaving. Squall looked at the car as it left; he could have sworn he saw Dr Odine at the wheel. Maybe he should follow him he thought. No he's with Rinoa he's not going to do his fathers dirty work now that'll have to work. "You wait here, while I get some petrol" Squall told Rinoa "No I'm going inside to buy something" she replied Rinoa and Squall both got out of the car and Squall headed for the pump and started to fill the car. Rinoa headed inside the shop to buy something for her and Squall to Eat and drink later on. Rinoa entered the shop and collected the items that she required she then proceeded to go over to the counter. "Hello young miss, never seen you around here before, how may I help you" Rinoa thought she would ask about the man, who had just left, as she had noticed Squalls expression when the car exited from the petrol station. "Who was that man that just came in here" Rinoa asked the shopkeeper. "That was Dr Odine, he passes thought here every now and again, gets some petrol and supply's and then heads of into the woods. It think he might have some sort of factory or something" "Yeah, what makes you say that?" Rinoa asked. "Well he buys a lot of supplies, and there's often some guards and workers come passed and head off in the same direction" "Do you know what goes on?" "Afraid not no, its all very hush, hush, we just let him get on with what he does, along as it doesn't effect us" Squall then entered the shop and put enough money on the counter to cover the petrol and Rinoa's purchases. "Is this your boyfriend? " the women asked "Yeah" Rinoa replied, "were down here for a weeks vacation you could say." She handed some change to Squall who, just looked at it said thank you, still thinking about whether or not that was Odine in the car and whether or not he should try and follow him. "Thank you, well be seeing you around" Rinoa while taking her things off the counter. They then exited the shop and got in the car. Hey drove off and followed a road up into the woods, Rinoa proceeded to tell Squall what the shopkeeper had told her about Odine. ......to be continued There it is the first bit...
