ElvenWorks Presents: Final Fantasy VIII Mythology ------------------- It's not over yet ------------------- By Elven Girl FS's Phyco Author of Fantasy Fiction In Making. Description: Short story about how Rinoa and Squall go through a squabble in their relatioship and the insane way it was solved. OMG... After this, you'll understand why I am a phyco. Yeah, well ALL relatioships get their ups and downs. Yeah, yeah, these two lovebirds too. ============================================================================================= Rinoa was sitting on her bed, her knees folded up on her chest, being cross, and steaming. She though smoke might start coming out of her ears. She was so angry and cross and bitter that she thought she was going to burst. She was right, he was wrong, and that's the way she thought it was. How could he act like that? What did he think she was, some weakling that couldn't look out for itself? Why did he have to be so stupid at times? And what was his problem when she told him off about the way he dressed and talked when he acted like an unsociable and careless git? All those questions boiled in her head, and she felt more cross by the moment as she thought of them. Lately they were both quite feisty with each other, both felt something wasn't as it was, but they couldn't quite pin it down. Squall was equally cross, but his reactions were less obvious, because by nature his feelings were surpressed till they were ready to explode. And when that happened, it was very, very nasty. He had isolated himself at the hightest deck of Garden, looking at the emptyness before him, leaned on the wall with his arms crossed over his chest and frowned. Frowned as he rarely was. He was right, she was wrong, end of story. Why couldn't she understand that? Sure, Rinoa was hard to understand, but he thought she would've been better than tell him off about silly things like his appearance or the way he talked, when he ever did that. Couldn't she let him be? He felt more bitter at the moment as he thought about all those, and he wished he had something else to think other than their squabble. It was pretty obvious they were before a fat crisis between them right now, but both were too stubborn to sit and think that the other one might be right. Of course, both felt equally bad for being angry at each other. Squall cared for her like anyone in the world, and Rinoa couldn't do without him. But still...a problem is a problem. They weren't as close as before, and they often snapped at each other. They hadn't reached at the level of making a public scene, nor did they shout at each other. They just snapped at each other and often exhanged little, calm -ussually- scolds, or one told the other off, taking it in turns, ussually about some behaviour that annoyed them. They were also a bit cold to each other, they didn't look at each other with that warm look they used to. What was happening? Neither knew. But, it was peculiar that the ones feeling more worried about them were Quistis and Zell. Both watched them have rants at each other almost everyday, and felt quite odd. They had noticed they weren't as they were in the first days. Something was going totally wrong. They often had some talks over the matter, but out of respect didn't decide to do anything. After all, neither had any brilliant ideas of getting them to warm up their relatioship, since they weren't the pros on that subject. The real pros, Selphie and Irvine, were at Trabia Garden, helping rebuild that place. They thought it would be quite unwise to call them, since Selphie would overblow the matter and Irvine might make a bigger mess of it than it already was. But, they felt they couldn't just sit back and watch Squall and Rinoa keep it on like that. "It's a big mess outta both, isn't it?" Zell said, when they were sitting in the Cafeteria. "Yes. I mean, look at them. They have some nice, fat rants at each other then stubbornly isolate themselves and feel cross. That's no way to solve a relatioship problem." Quistis replied, taking a sip of her coffee. "Yeah, you're right there. Why don't they just talk?" Quistis snorted loudly. "Ok, ok! I got that...'Can Squall talk? And is Rinoa not stubborn?' Man, stereotypes...Fit equally at them." Zell said, leaning back on his chair. "You go tell me what the heck did they see in each other and they had the sparks going on way back when. What changed?" "The situations Zell, the situations." Quistis said with a look of great patience. "She got into a lot of trouble, like a typical damzel in distress, and like the irrationally heroic geek he is, he just pulled her out of it. Now they're back to the 'typical-unordinary' couple that starts the ups and downs. Go figure..." "You can't quite believe their relatioship huh? I mean, one moment they're crazy for each other, the next thing you know, they start squabbling like magpies. Jesus..." "You're right there..." Quistis said, sighing. "I can't stand watching them march to 'split-up'. If it were any other I'd say ok, the hell with it. But its them two, and it kills me to know that they're each others 'love-of-my-life' and they're fed up from the first two weeks!" "I know the feelin'...We have to do something..." "We? Come on Zell, grow up. Its their problem, we can't just..." "Were you, or weren't you saying that you feel like s*** because they might fall apart?" "Alright, I did, but..." "But what?!" "Will you keep it down you numbskull? Do you want the whole Garden to know?!" "Sorry." "Look Zell, I'm not really brilliant in brining back together couples, I've never even had an affair that I kept over half a month." "I've never had one of those before, but still, we gotta do something. Try and make 'em two talk and get it sorted. I don't want to get stuck with 'King-Of-Ice' Squall, when Rinoa's out of his life. He'll be a git again." "I know...and mind you, Rinoa's gonna be greatly spited. No, no...not spited. She'll wither." Quistis said with another sigh. Zell grumpled and crossed his arms. He had to think of some way to get them into a situation where they might actually talk and solve the problem. Then he got up from his chair. "I'll go talk with that big git, Squall. I'll try to get him to tell me where the bottom of the broblem is." he said. "Careful. With that tantrum he's in, he might shove his Gunblade up your--" "I know, I know!...He can try, but he'll never manage." Zell said, cutting her, and striding off. All the way to the upper decks, he was grouchy. On the way, he met up with Logan, a young cadet he knew quite well, since they were neighbours in Balamb. "G'day mate." Logan said. "Hi Logan." Zell said. "What's with you? You look grouchy." "...Someone I know has problems. To tell the truth, the git has a lot of issues, but he'll never talk." "Oh, I get it...bad thing, issues are. Tell me about it, I have a lot..." Suddenly, Zell remembered something. "Logan, what shop did you say your dad owns in Balamb?" Logan's face flushed lightly. "Come on Zell, it's no secret. My dad has a...well, he has a sex shop." He said, lowly. "You work there too?" Logan looked annoyed. At least, so he tried to look. "Yeah, well...mainly when dad's outta town...you know, I just do chores around the place and do a little work when dad's away...Mind you, I don't like it at all." 'Yeah, right...' Zell thought. It was a common secret that Logan always said he didn't like working at his dad's shop, but he's always lying about that matter. "Ohkeeyy...well, anyway, gotta get going. See you around Logan." "Yeah, see you Zell." Logan said and marched hastily down the hall. 'Haha, funny guy. Irvine's a regular down there, no secret in that.' Zell thought with a smirk. He got at the deck Squall was sitting on his own and pushed the heavy door open and went outside. Squall was still leaning against the wall, terribly quiet. "Yo man...err, how's it going?" he asked. "..." "You ok?" "..." "Come on man! I know you're not dead! Talk to me!!" "..." "..." "..." "I'm not stupid you know. Come on, I wanna talk to you." "...Go ahead then." Zell pulled a wry face. "Look, why you so stubborn 'bout Rinoa? I mean, you got enough space to breathe, don't you? What messed it all up all of a sudden?" "...This is none of your--" "Oh for cryin' out loud you fat git!" Zell said, and excited clenched his fist. "I know its none of my bussiness, but I ain't so senseless to sit and watch you feel bitter and Rinoa feel deserted because you both are as stubborn as mules! Look man, you're stupid; you've got the girl of your life and all of a sudden you start doing blunders! Jesus! You're clueless! Girls like'er are one in a million! You gonna let'er go now?" "I never said we were gonna split up Zell. We're just going through some rough times." "...Nevertheless, you guys are going insane. That's not right. You guys were crazy about each other, what happened now?" "...We just started to have some small dissagreements." "Well hell, why don't you people talk?! Ordinary people usually talk when they've got some issues to solve you know!!" "We don't have anything special to talk about." "Yeah, my ass you don't! Come on man, what's the gain in just letting it get you?! Quit this stubborn show, will ya? You both get hurt. Is it that pleasant? Man, I can't bare watchin' you two." "Then just look elsewhere." Zell practically threw up his fists and shook them wildly as he hopped up and down in anger. "That's the point you git! I can't! I worry 'bout you and Rinoa! I don't want you to lose her! And I don't want her to lose you! You'll never get a girl like her again, and she won't find another blocke like you!" he barked. "Listen Zell, get yourself a girlfriend, and manage there!" Squall snapped. Zell looked at him slightly thunderstruck. He never expected Squall to yap at him like that. He stood staring at him, gapping, while Squall cooly kept leaning on the wall, looking at nothing ahead of him. He had serenely ignored Zell the whole time. Zell felt this was hopeless. "Oh hell...the hell with it you git. I tried my best to bring you to your senses. Well get lost, I don't care. Since you're so stubborn, what can I do? Be my guest, do whatever you want." Zell snapped and strode off, back in Garden, slamming the door behind him closed. Squall sighed and looked up. 'Maybe I shouldn't have snapped at him like that.' he thought. 'But, he has no right in meddling with my affairs. No one has.' "How did it go?" Quistis asked Zell later, when he landed heavily in a chair, snorting angrily and looking grouchy. "Nothing. He won't listen. Too stubborn, just like you predicted." "I told you..." "Man, this ain't right."Zell said. "They can't go and undo all they've done! No way!" "...You can say that again..." Quistis sighed. "We gotta make 'em talk to each other somehow." "You get the idea, and I'll bring the world up-side-down to pull it off, if it'll work." Quistis said. Zell thought for a moment, then squeezed his head in his hands. "This is nuts. He's right, telling me it's none of my bussiness, but I can't help it!" "I know, she told me a similar thing." "You talked with Rinoa?" Zell asked her. "Yeah..." "Can I come in?" Quistis asked Rinoa, peering from the door of the dorm. "Unless Squall sent you, yes, you can." Rinoa said. Quistis quietly came in and closed the door behind her. She stood before Rinoa, her hands on her waist. "You look so bad." "Do you really have to say this?" "Yes. Rinoa sweetheart, don't be so stubborn. You'll never get anywhere if you don't talk. You guys are the only ones that can solve this." "When he decides to grow up, act better and come start a conversation, I will!" "Oh, for heaven's sake Rinoa...You know him better than that. He never starts talking. Come on, put you pride in the closet and go talk to him. I know it hurts you both. Give it a break, both of you." "Quistis, he can't get it..." "Get what stubborn girl?!" Quistis said conceited at last. "You two are crazy about each other, but you let these insignificant, trivial matters get between you. For heaven's sake, put them aside, sit down and talk. It's the only way you guys can get back together." "Quistis...it's not the same anymore. We may not be able to...oh forget it. Anyway, he'll never listen." Quistis got frustrated. "Dammit, you're so stubborn! Why don't you go talk to him? Have you any idea how much he's hurt? He wants more than anything to be with you and yet he keeps away because he's plain stubborn! You both are! You're both being silly and imature!" she said, stamping her foot. Finally, very upset, she strode out of the dorm, leaving Rinoa with eyes growing steadily watery. "And now I feel terrible for yapping at her like that. I know I should go apologise to her, but I just can't get myself to do it. She needs to understand, and even if I was too harsh, I guess I made my point clear." "Yeah well...maybe you overdid it." Zell said, scratching the back of his neck. "I know...but it was very bad of Squall to talk to you like that as well." "Ah, nevermind...I'm used to that kind of stuff." "Anyway...if I know him well enough, he might manage to bring himself in apologising to you-when noone's watching of course." "...What'll we do about them, then?" "I have no idea. Unless they find a way to talk it out themselves, I don't know what we can do or expect." Zell saw Logan coming in the cafeteria and gave a nod of the head to greet him when he looked their way. "I guess we'll have to use 'extrteme measures'." "Extreme measures?" "Yeah. 'Extreme measures'..." Zell said with a snigger, and the look of someone who had just came up with a brilliant idea. Quistis managed a smile. "I don't know what you're thinking of, but it looks both scary and good at the same time." she said. "Trust me it's a killer. But, we'll use it as a last measure." Meanwhile, Squall had decided it was good time to return back inside. He went back in, and paced down the halls quietly, his hands stuffed in his pockets. He went to the first floor and just walked around. He thought he might bump into Rinoa right now...but he had no idea wether he wanted to or not. Maybe Zell was right and they should seriously talk? He never was good at talking, much more discussing problems with others. So far he solved his problems by himself and everything worked out fine. Skeptical he kept pacing around. Rinoa had also gotten out of the dorm, only to isolate herself into the Library. She had at random picked a book by Richard Bach to read, and although she had sank in her seat and held the book open in front of her, she only blindly turned the pages. Her mind was elsewhere. Perhaps Quistis was right and she should talk with Squall. Perhaps he would see it as a best option as well, but she was determined it would not be her to start the discussion. If he wanted to start, she would gladly talk with him, but she didn't intend to go begging him to talk to her. No way, she thought, no way. The cross feeling came back, and she felt like she wanted to burst. Squall was so damn stubborn he didn't want to look a few feet off the end of his nose and look at what she felt. He was so stubborn and selfish she thought, so much he almost looked mean in her mind, though she knew perfectly well Squall was a gentel and kind character. Suddenly all the positive things on him were invisible and she could only see the bad ones. And she thought they towered and towered, until they had become too much for her and she wanted to cry. Squall kept pacing around, thinking, when he returned to his dorm. Maybe he ought've gone talk to her, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. His pride wouldn't let him, though he all other than realised it. Once he returned to his dorm, he fell flat on the bed, thoughtful and bored. Imencely bored. So, they eventually did not talk that day. The following days they talked and acted very typically to each other, as if they didn't know each other as well as they did. Quistis and Zell were getting sick of that. Rinoa and Squall avoided looking at each other in the eyes, but every now and then, they would peer up to stare at the other when he wasn't looking, but glared down again once the other raised sight. That specifically was driving Zell mad. "Nothing. Zippo." Zell said two days later. "You're right. Stubborn as mules." Quistis shrugged. "Time for the 'extreme measures'." "Will you finally tell me what's it all about?!" "Wait till I fetch our 'special agent'. He's gonna handle everything..." Zell said, prouncing the world 'everything' slowly. And he called for Logan. He sat him at their table with Quistis and all three bent over and talked with whispers for a long time. The plan consumed them two hours, three phonecalls, lots of persuation, and two or three coffees to come up with. But it seemed like it was a nicely backed cake and they shook hands satisfied afterwards, with a conspiracing smile on their faces, barely holding back their sniggers. And then Quistis commented with a chuckle: "Brilliant...and insane. You guys are gonna put Odine out of bussiness in madness matters, no problem." Zell was laughing so hard he had to stuff his knuckles in his mouth to keep it low. "Cheers." Logan said with difficulty, through laughs, wiping a tear off his eye. "Dad's found it a good idea, and he'll get us the space ready by tommorow night. 'Course, this means I'll have to work overhours at the shop, but what the hell..." "Oh, I can't wait to see their faces, they'll kill us afterwards." Zell managed to say with pants, holding his ribs. "I hope they try breaking out from the wrong door. They'll end up deeper in trouble!" Quistis said laughing. "Will you move it? I told you its urgent!" Zell said, urging Squall to walk faster. "Alright, alright...What the hell's going on by the way, and you're dragging me so late at Balamb?" Squall protested. "I told you, something's going on at the market district and we have to check it up. After all, your b-day's in a couple of days and I'd like to know what I should get you." Squall thought that was odd."You don't have to..." "Oh, stuff it and move!" Zell cut him. Squall followed Zell obediantly, although wondering what was going on. He had no idea why Zell pulled him through Balamb like that. They went to the market district, which was quiet and rather dark since the shops were all closed. Squall followed Zell down an alleyway, and up till the dead-end almost, in front of a door, which was covered in dust and posters of various things. "This is it." Zell said, looking at the door. "What, this filthy place? Zell, what are you getting me into again?" "Oh come on man, where's your spirit of adventure?" "..." Zell opened the door. The room was dark."Now, move on." he added, grabbing Squall by the shoulder and shoving him, head-first, into the room. Squall misstepped and nearly fell on his face, but fell on someone else. "Ouch!" "Ack!" "Rinoa?" "Squall?" "What are you doing in here?" "Quistis brought me. She said she wanted to show me something and she shoved me into this room." She said sternly. "What are you doing here?" "Zell shoved me in here." "And?" "And what?" *Ck-Click!* Both turned back to the door. Someone had closed it, and locked it. The lights suddenly went up, and both of them were pertified from surprise: They were standing in the store-room of...a sex shop. "Oh they didn't..." Rinoa managed to utter. "...Yes they did." Squall said. Outside, Zell and Logan shook hands with satisfied looks, while Quistis was beating the wall with her fist laughing. "We did it! They're locked in!" Logan said, waving the keys in the air. "Guys?! You locked us in here!!" Squall shouted from behind the door. Zell, Logan and Quistis fell about. Zell tapped on the door with a loud laugh. "Hahahahaha! Its a little early mate but, happy birthday Squally!" he chuckled. Squall replied with an illegible sound of surprise and insult, something between a snarl and a gasp, that only made Quistis choke from laughing. "You two guys have fun in there, and we'll come and open in the morning! There's a box of chocolates on the shelf, if you feel hungry!" Logan chuckled. "And another thing: don't mess up the place too much!" Rinoa let loose such a swear that Logan laughed really hard, so much Quistis had to pat him on the back to help him pick himself up. Then, the trio left Squall and Rinoa locked behind the door, and laughing, left, walking back into the main plaza, talking about their prank. "It's a little thick, isn't it?" Quistis said. "Oh come on, this is the stuff we'll remember later!" Zell sniggered. "...And a little naive of us to think that with some leather underwear and some other...'naughty stuff' they'll get themselves back together." Quistis continued on. "Hey! It's my dad's merchendise you're talking about! First-rate products." Logan chuckled, nudging her. "Anyway, at least it'll make 'em sit and talk, they can't avoid it in there, if they're as you describe 'em. Ya, they'll definately see the sillyness of the whole situation. Dad said that when everything else fails, such 'extreme measures' work wonders. He does it all the time with my mom." "Well it was very nice of him to let us use the shop's storage room." Quistis said. "Ah, my dad's a whacko. Why d'you think he named me Logan?" "...Really, why'd he do that?" Zell asked. "My dad is a huge fan of 'X-Men'..." Back at the locked room, Squall and Rinoa were still thunderstruck. They were petrified right where they were, starring at each other. "This is great...first the others try to reconcile us, making fools out of us, and now they lock us up in...well a place like this!" Rinoa said. "..." Squall didn't reply. Rinoa didn't really expect him to. She snorted and went to the door, pushing him aside. "Out of the way. I'll force it open." But Squall held her hand. She looked at him with question. "...They're right you know." he said. "What?!" she gasped, raising an eyebrow. "They were right to lock us up in the storage room of a sex-shop? Geez, what's with you? You're not hanging out too much with Irvine, are you?" "No...I mean they're right on the fact that we have to talk." he countered. "They locked us up in here because they had no other way to force us talk. They tried to get us to talk with the good way but we both threw it on their faces. So they resolved this. And you know what else they want to tell us this way? That it's silly to act so stubbornly. Just like you think being locked up in here is stupid, they think its stupid of us to be so stubborn at each other." She looked at him, speechless and thoughtful. He seemed right. "So here we are. Locked in a room, nowhere to go. All we can do is talk. No more lies, no more stubborness." he said. Rinoa looked at her hand, still in his. She bit her lip lightly, thoughtful too. "We don't have any other option, do we?" "We do, but I don't like them." Squall said, pulling a crate from his side and having her sit on it. He sat oposite of her, on another one. For a fleeting moment he wondered what was in those crates, but then he changed his mind and thought he would rather not know. "The other options won't satisfy me, and neither will they satisfy you. We'll end up hurt, and that's the least I want. I just want to be with you." he said. "I do to, but...we've got so many things we argue about that it seems hopeless." she replied. "Then, let's talk." "I thought you didn't like voicing your feelings. You said you weren't good in talking." "...If I need to, I can manage." "Let's talk then." And they *did* talk. For hours and hours, but time didn't seem to matter. The subjects came fluently like water and it was surprising for both in how many things they agreed in, and how easily they could work things out when they just talked. And most of the time, they were holding hands, to feel each other, and stared at each other through the eyes, just to see the truth and comprehension in the other's look. They eventually came to a point where there was nothing else to talk about, because they had realised they had just reconciled and gotten back together. They just sat back, leaning on the wall, just like that, being together. "You know..." Rinoa said suddenly. "Yes?" "I think you would look good in that." she said, pointing at the wall opposite them, where there was a male dummy dressed in a black, leather sleeveless shirt with silver spikes on the shoulders and trims. There was also a pair of tight, leather trousers with a belt with spikes, a pair of gloves with spikes on the knuckles, a neck-belt with yet more spikes and a black whip in its hands. Squall laughed. "I'd never wear that." "Why? Its cool!" she chuckled. "Or, look at that, that's cute." She pointed at a pair of man's underwear, black with some naughty pictures printed on it. Squall kept laughing. "I'd never wear that either. Irvine and Zell like that kind of stuff." He laughed a bit more, and then looked around. "Have you realised were sitting in a room with crates that contain vibrators?" he asked with a mischievous smile. Rinoa burst to an uncontrolable laughter, holding her stomach. "You can be so lame!" she chuckled. "Why thank you. At least, I'm not as bad as Irvine can be." "You're right there, Irvine would've gone opening the crates and examining everything. He's so filthy at times I can say he disgusts me." Rinoa said, faking indigant. "So, you don't like that costume at all?" "No. It's not my type." "Then, what is?" "The good-old, plain nude..." he said serenely. Rinoa laughed even harder, and her face was all red."And what do you like from in here?" she asked with a smile. "Well...that kind of stuff." he said showing her a 'Moulen Rouge'-style outfit, red and white and pink with a corshe, ribbons and feathers, which definately would reveal much more than it would cover. "You'd look very cute in it." Rinoa held her ribs from laughing. "Hahahahah! Well, at least its a choice with taste. Maybe I would look good in it." she gave him a mischievous look and smile, and got up and went up to the costume, as Squall looked down and laughed lowly. "You're not gonna..." "You watch me." (Note: At this point, the author would like to say that what followed is highly sencored -ahmf!- and therefore will not be described. {Loud, hard laugh that goes long.} :P ) Two days later, Squall and Rinoa were back on track with a good relationship, and Zell, Quistis and Logan congratulated each other with loud laughs for their idea and its success, and noted in their minds to be ready to repeat the process if they had to. "Cheers mate, we did it!" Logan sniggered. "Aw man, you should've seen them when Zell and I unlocked the storage room the next day." At that point he let loose a loud laugh at the memory of the two of them duped in a sweet slumber on a water-mattress on the floor of the store room, under a quilt with a patchwork of naughty pictures. "Well, this proves the old saying 'that love makes everything go round'." Quistis said, wiping her teary eyes. "Ah well, couldn't've been better." Zell said, then moaned lightly. He had a black eye, courtesy of Squall when he woke him up that morning. It quite stung him. "Hahaha, you deserved that smack." Quistis said. "Wasn't your bussiness to go wake 'em up. No wonder he punched you." "All I did was pull the blanket off! I didn't think they'd have actually..." "Don't say it aloud!" she cut him. "...gone and 'bonked the rabbit'...Really, where are they?" Zell wondered. "Ah, they went to dad this morning, and they bought something..." Logan said with a cheesy snigger. "Said they wanted to keep a souvenir or two and I think they just might be 'admiring' it right now." "Well, good for them guys till they get busted. Everyone does, eventually." Quistis said serenely, fishing a piece of coockie from her coffee. "I've got to get myself a boyfriend, too. I'd have a better reason to visit your store Logan." She added. Zell and Logan glared at her. The End! (Finally. OMDG...) ++++++++++++++++++++ Author's afternote: ++++++++++++++++++++ Well? Does it have enough insanity to cater you?
