Incapabula: the Light and the Dark By ElvenGirl Prologue I want to surpass my cousin WTW as a fanfic author, so I start my very own. I hope I prove to be as good as she was, and won't quit writing like she almost has. But, enough about us two...I wish to present you with a drama story that I hope will capture you as the original story did. Well, Squall's and Rinoa's descendant is...well not as you expect I hope. You'll see... Prelude "Adrian..." "Yes mother?" "Have you wondered what destiny is?" "Yes..." "What do you think your destiny shall be?" "..." "Answer." "..." "ANSWER!" "I don't know mother!!" "That is the correct answer. No one knows his or her destiny!...Not until the destiny has reached him." "Yes mother..." "What are you going to choose Adrian?" "What?" "What are you going to choose in your life Adrian?" "I...don't know." "As well you should. Now, tell me...do you believe?" Adrian lingered to answer. He looked at his mother through the eyes. "...Yes..." ...Do you believe?...It will echo in his mind forever...Do you believe?... Chapter I: Entrada Chick...chick...chick...The equipment of the prison guard is making sounds as he walks down the corridor with his comrades and a prison ward. "I don't get it...why do they want this piece o' shit to work wit 'em?" one of them said. "Bah, who knows...An' who cares either! But I tell ya...he'll be off loose wreckin' havoc in no time. Then they'll call us again to snatch him up all over again..." the other replied. "Ya remember about the first squad that went to catch 'im?" "Do I forget? Do I forget that thing? How many from that squad you think were left alive before they knocked him out? Out of a hundred men? Five!! Five were only left alive!! Five out of a hundred men equiped with rocket launchers and powerful magic equipment! One man sent all the others to hell!" the third one said shaky. "My cousin was in that squad...made it out alive...with three limbs less. He's only got a right arm now, and he can't even write with it!" "So...why the hell do they want 'im?" "Ah, I don'know..." "This is it gentlemen..." the ward said, opening the door to the high-security cell. "Darn it..." the first soldier said, looking at the three times armoured door. "Watch your step..." the ward said as they went down three steps, and stepped onto the moist, rusty floor of the cell. The ward turned on a flashlight. "Where the fuck is he?" a soldier asked. A sound of moving chains attracted his attention. They all turned. There was a man tied to the wall with chains, and an iron helmet secured over his head, like a mask that was never meant to be removed. "That's him?!" "Yes..." the ward replied. The man on the wall raised his sight, and looked at the soldiers through an opening of the mask. He stared at them without a sound. His arms were stretched upwards and tied by chains thick and strong. "Is he always tied over there?" a soldier asked. "Yes...he has to. If we'd let him loose, God knows when we'd be found dead. The anti-magic field here's the strongest." the ward said. "So...it's true?" "You bet it is." the ward said. A soldier went near him, and tried to look into the mask's opening of the eyes. He couldn't see any eye, just a small shine. "G'day mate. We're 'ere to get you out o' this crap. Someone's lookin' for ye, get my drift? Hehehe...Nothin' to say mate? That's stupid." the soldier giggled. "He always so quiet?" he asked the ward. "Hasn't said a word ever since he's been here." the ward replied. "Never mind. Hey ward, get him off the wall, we're taking him to them now. Just put this collar around his neck, and it'll block his...well it'll nullify him. " the other soldier said. The ward tied the thick, metal collar around the man's neck, and then, trembling almost, took off the chains, and released his arms. Two of the soldiers pointed their guns at him. "One wrong move..." The man just stood on the floor upright, and he was taller than any of them. He simply raised his hands and rubbed his wrists, to soften the ache from the long-time tie to the wall with chains. "Move it bastard..." the ward said and pushed him. The man followed the soldiers out of the cell, and two still had their guns pointed at them. Chunk...chunk...chunk...the metal and locks of his helmet were making sounds as he walked down the hall with a solemn step, that suited a king more than a soldier or a criminal. For them, he was worse than both. They went to the top floor, the exit of the D-District Prison, and there they had to go through some paperwork to get the man out. "Papers...papers...papers..." a soldier commented. "The world's been taken over by this shit." The man turned to look at him. They hadn't removed the helmet from him. His clothes were dirty and ragged, and his left sleeve was missing. "You agree huh?" He nodded slowly. "Hahaha!...you ain't so stupid after all." "What about his personal possessions?" the other asked when they were done with the paperwork. "Did he have anything?" The man pointed at one of the soldiers' sword. The soldier stared back with question. "A weapon?" The man nodded. "They'll give you new ones..." the soldier said. The man brought his face near the soldiers. "I want my Gunblade dude..." he said with a whispering voice. It seemed he couldn't talk properly though the helmet-mask. "Shit!! This bug-ass knows how to talk!" "He said he wants his Gunblade..." the soldier the man talked to stuttered. "His Gunblade?" They turned to the desk where prisoners left their possessions when they were brought in. It was a common secret that soldiers and majors snatched the best stuff from there. "This ass here's lookin' for his Gunblade." a soldier told the one at the desk. "The only gunblade they brought here was five years ago." the soldier said, lookin' through the files at the computers. "Excellent model. Hehehe...tell the bastard that the Gunblade's mine now." "I get it." the other replied with a smile. "You betta start lookin' for another one 'dude'." he told the man. "...Tell the motherfucker on the desk to give me the Gunblade." the man replied with a whisper. "What did you call me?!" the soldier at the desk roared, getting up. "Your name, motherfucker." the man replied. "Give me the Gunblade." he added sternly. "Dammit!" the soldier raised a clob and tried to smack the man, but he swiftly avoided the blow with a dexterous and fast move. The soldier lost his balance, and made some clumsy moves to keep himself from falling. The man raised his foot and pushed the soldier's rear, making him fall on his face. The rest of the soldiers in the hall laughed out loud. "Hahahah! He got you Rolf!" one said. "Gahahaha! You're an idiot!" another replied. The soldier that fell was steaming. "What's going on in here?!?!" someone bawled. Everyone froze. Major Sharks! "Sir!!" All soldiers said aloud and saluted. They were a little shaky. Major Sharks was an aggressive and easy to anger major that all of his soldiers feared. And hated too, but no one dared to say or show so. They weren't stupid. Major Sharks was escorted by a man in SeeD uniform. "Where is he?" Sharks asked the soldiers. "This is him...Sir." a soldier said, pointing at the man. Sharks measured him with the eye. "Doesn't look much of a wretch to me. You sure you people want him?" he asked the SeeD. "I have orders to escort him back to Balamb Garden. The Headmaster says so." the SeeD replied. Sharks shook his shoulders. "Fine." The man with the helmet stared at the SeeD. "So, is there a problem over here?" Sharks asked. "...Tell your men to give me my Gunblade." the man said. "What?" "I want my Gunblade back." "Yeah eh? Private Rolf! You heard him, you scum! Give it to the SeeD here!" Sharks bawled. "S-S-Ssiryessir!!!" Private Rolf stuttered and ran to a closet at the back of the Possessions Drop-Off Office, and unlocked it after looking at his key holder for the right key. He pulled out a box with something carved on it, and dashed back to the SeeD. "H-here it is." he said. "Don't worry, I'll give it to you once we get back to Garden." the SeeD told the man. The man gave the SeeD a strange look behind the mask. Then he followed him out of the Office. "Hey!" the soldier said. "Catch!" he threw something at them The SeeD turned and caught it. Two keys. "The mask and the collar. Take 'em off only when you're sure he won't blow your asses off!" the soldier said. The Seed snorted scornfully, and nodded the man to follow him. "So, its been five years, already, huh?" the SeeD asked the man when they were in the car that would take them to the station where they'd take the armoured train back to Balamb Garden. They were sitting in the back, the two of them, while the driver drove through the desert. The man nodded. "Hehehe...You should thank God that Headmaster Evans wants to see your sorry ass again Adrian. One would think that after that 'accident' you would have just rotten in the DDPrison. Where you should have rotten anyway." the SeeD giggled. "...Don't stab me about the past Seth." the man said. "Its over." Seth giggled. "...What does Evans want me for?" "You never change Adrian. Still taciturn and reluctant and aloof...I guess that's typical of you. Evans is up to something, and he needs you to clean up the slack my man. Like it suits your lower social status." Adrian did not say a thing. "I see you keep being a mongrel." Seth giggled. "Keep obeying your superiors Adrian...that is all you can do anyway!" "Mandy's death was not my fault Seth, and nor was Kerigan's." "Don't you talk about those things Adrian!! We know what happened! Mandy died because of your stupidity and Kerigan, my father was killed from your father you rotten-sewer-rat!!" Seth roared. Adrian did not reply. "I know what you're thinking of mongrel, don't go to fool me. Its only out of respect to your mother that we let you live, and that we're takin' you back in." "No Seth...you are taking me back only because it seems that Evans is desperate. What is it, I wonder, that the Garden cannot do?" Headmaster Evans was much different than what Cid had been in the far past. He was tall and slim, with long black hair and a wrinkled face where his glasses took up most of the space. He sat on his desk, starring at Adrian with the mask and the collar across him. His look was angry but most of all defiant, Adrian looked out of place with his filthy appearance and his dirty and ripped clothes in the rich and elegant Headmster's office of Balamb Garden with the guard SeeDs dressed in their sharp uniforms and their shiny weapons. "So, as you see we brought you back in Garden Adrian..." Evans said solemnly. "After ditching me in a living hell for five years..." Adrain laughed scornfully but hoarsely. "Mind your ways with me Adrian. I can send you back in that hell again." "Alright. Just tell me what do you want me for. If I judge by the fact you brought back from prison someone like me, I guess this is bad. " Evans sighed. "We're dealing with something you know well. Demons." Adrian snorted. "Well? What's going on?" "Apparently, a portal to the demon world has opened somewhere, and demons are flooding in our world. We're in their situation for a week or so, and demons are already making their appearance. And we're not talking about normal demons Adrian. They are Vergarals; demon vampires. They are powerful and we can't defeat them easily." "And where do I fit in?" Adrian said through the helmet, though he feared he knew what they wanted him for. "Well, I have decided to try and stop this evil at its root; the portal itself. But, we need someone that knows about demons and their ways...someone whose powers can compare with theirs..." "You were looking for the perfect jerk, and now he's standing before you...ain't that you're thinkin'?" Adrian said." Look, I appreciate you getting me out that shit-pit, but I don't know if I can do what you ask me to Sir. I still have respect for you, but I just don't know. Vergarals are demons I know little about. I know they are worse than the devil himself, but that's about it. I don't know much." The other SeeDs in the hall whispered to teach other about the strangers talking. Most didn't know him. Seth looked at him with defiance. "Don't work on me Adrian. It's a common secret you're the son of a human and a demon!" Evans bawled. Everyone in that hall froze. Son of a demon!? A half-demon in there!? Was Evans nuts? "And exactly that advantage is what I'm betting on to succeed in this situation. You may not know, but nevertheless you can find out. And you are someone who can actually say he can fight a demon...as your fit to kill one at the age of nine proved..." "You needn't make a fuss of it Sir." Adrian said. "Anyway, I trust that you don't leave me much choice but to just bow down and take your offer. I don't want to hear your threats if I would decline it Sir; I know them. And you know I can't stick up against them. Alright, you've got your deal. But when we're through with this all I want is my freedom. Do we have a deal?" Evans looked as if he was about to explode. This mongrel before him had the guts to ask to make a deal with him! Ah, that went too far. But still...it was a reasonable request. After all, if he got killed, it would be better for all. "Fine!" he only said loudly. "Take that helmet and that collar of him!" Seth proceeded to do as the Headmster ordered. The rest of the SeeDs in the hall watched with obvious interest. This stranger had apparently served in Garden once, and had been imprisoned. What for, they wondered. Most were sure they didn't know him, but those few who did were curious to see what had changed of him in the past five years. They watched Seth unlock the collar from around Adrian's neck, and then unlock the three locks on the mask. The metal mask was removed slowly, so that it wouldn't damage his face. A white mane dropped on Adrian's soldiers. "What? He must be as old as a tortoise!" A girl SeeD thought. Her name was Kiara. The rest of the SeeDs thought the same. But, when Adrian lifted his face, they saw he was no older than twenty-two, with a young face and eyes like a frozen blue-green that made him look almost scary. Evans starred at Adrian, and then told him to go. "Zerel should be waiting for you. Go find him. Seth, escort him, please. " Evans said. Adrian gave a calm look to all those in the hall and followed Seth down the hall and into the elevator. "You didn't tell me...how have you been doing?" Adrian asked. His normal voice was clear, serious and crystal. And somewhat cold. And it got colder as he talked to Seth. "Oh, the same usual. Being better than you." "...Where's Zerel? Did he pass his SeeD test?" "He's fine...you'll see him soon." They got out of the elevator on the first floor. A young man, no older than seventeen waited there. He was dressed in SeeD uniform. He was tall, slim, with black hair and black eyes. He turned to the duet coming out of the elevator, and his face lit up. Adrian's face took a warmer look. He moved towards the young SeeD with a smile. Once they reached each other they hugged each other with love. Then they looked at each other. "Hello Zerel; how's my favourite little brother?" Adrian asked. "Not so little anymore Adrian. You've been away much too long." Adrian looked at his little brother. "And SeeD of rank 20 no less! Mother would've been proud." "I really missed you Adrian. I wanted to come and see you, but I was forbidden..." "It couldn't be helped Zerel. But now the Headmaster wants me back. I'll have to stay." "If he blackmailed you using me I'll!..." "Don't say anything else Zerel, I have already made my decision." Zerel looked at his brother. "Seth, where's my Gunblade..." "I have it. Its in my dorm. Seth gave it to me..." Zerel said. "Fine. Lets go there...I want to talk with you ...and I need some clothes." "So...how have you been?" Adrian asked Zerel as he put on his white shirt. "Just a plain SeeD...I sometimes get bullied around by some jurks that talk badly about you...But Seth is there for me..." "He will be. He's your bother after all." "I know but...he doesn't feel comfortable knowing I'm related to you." "Well, I'm not related to him, why should he bother?" "That's the point Adrian." Zerel said, from his seat on the bed. Adrian put the long, black jacket on him. "I know he still hates me. He will never stop, because he will never understand." "Well, you never tried telling him the truth Adrian! We both know that his...our father tried to kill you!" Adrian froze for a moment, looking back in the past. He breathed deeply. "There is no truth Zerel. There are just perceptions, and illusions of the mind that truth cannot pierce. There are beliefs that truth cannot bring down." "But Adrian!" Zerel said, but Adrian shook his head. "He'll never digest it Zerel. No one will. I am a mongrel, nothing can help it, and I'll be an outcast in my own world for ever. That is how our world is shaped after all. Don't let it get to you, but thank the Lord that you are not like me, even though I know you wish you were. I thank the Lord because you are more like Seth." Zerel took a sad look. "If that is so, why did mother give the Gunblade to you?" "Because...Ah, I don't know Zerel. It doesn't matter. I'd never let it come to Seth. He wouldn't be worthy of yielding it. He never will be. It is not within him. But you, yes, perhaps it can be. No, I'm certain it is within you too. You just must find it." "Don't say that Adrian. I prefer that you keep it. The Gunblade has powers that I can't hold, while you can. You are the first-born after all, not me." "..." Zerel looked at his brother. He was surprised at how different his brother looked in clean, sharp clothes. Zerel had kept Adrian's old possessions, and knowing his tastes, had went and bought him some new clothes when Seth told him about his return. Adrian wore a pair of black trousers, a white T-Shirt and a long, black jacket with long sleeves. He wore two brown belts crossed over his abdomen, and a smaller black belt around his neck. His hands wore black, fingerless gloves, and he had tied straps of leather around them as well. He also had two earrings on his left ear. His white hair was combed back and looked like melted silver as it shone lightly in the light. Unwillingly, Zerel smiled. He always thought that Adrian was the coolest man alive, and secretly, remembered of their mother when he saw him. Zerel looked less to their mother, and he slightly envied Adrian for his looks. Adrian opened the heavy case of the Gunblade. In it was a fabulous weapon, the Lion Heart. The legendary Gunblade that was made of Adamantine, powerful crystalline powers and something else no one ever found out...No one knew what gave that Gunblade all of its power. Adrian smiled lightly upon seeing the Gunbalde. "It's been five years my trustful friend..." he thought as he took it in his hands. The semi-transparent blue blade sparkled in the light that fell through the half-closed blind of Zerel's dorm. Adrian examined it carefully, to see if it was rusted anywhere, or scratched or damaged. He ran his hand softly over the blade. It was perfect as always. Zerel's smile got wider. "The Training Center is still open you know..." Adrian smiled at his brother. "You think you could handle some Ruby Dragons?" "Am I in for that little challenge? Of course!" Adrian smiled to his brother as they both left the dorm to head for the Training Center. "Was it really wise of us to bring him back?" Evans' advisor asked him. "There's nothing more we can do. Only he has the power to seal that damned portal and fight the demons away. I wish we'd let him rot in the DD Prison forever but still...I cannot put the world in stake because of my pride. No, I will not hide behind my pride any better than a child does behind a tree." Evans said, leaning on the window, and looking down at the Training Center. "I have no other option than to trust Adrian." "...His powers are drawn from the darkness. Who says he shall not turn towards the darkness?" Evans looked out with a blank expression. "...Fate..." he said. "He knows...something we don't. There is...something within him that...I don't know. But there is 'something' within him. It burns like a fire and I'm afraid that no prison, no torture and not even death cannot burn it out." Evans said. "See, all those are like moths that dance around his flame...In the end they get scorched by his fire." "But the son of a demon...and a human...how did that happen in the end?" "...A long story I'm afraid. I don't know how demons think, but his father sure wasn't stupid. Espera acted...strangely after...after whatever happened. She seemed calmer than ever and said that everything was fine. Everyone though it was indeed until...the child first showed his power..." "What happened?" "A demon appeared in Garden. Nothing could stop him. See to defeat a demon; one must have powers close to one's. And then...that little mongrel went on his own and defeated him. So easily. I was there, and I saw...I saw the little boy run that demon through with an ease and strength I would never see again. And I am sure I will never see again." "My Lord..." "Nevertheless, it was clear then that the boy was not Kerigan's spawn. Everyone was certain. Espera herself seeked to protect the boy from him. It was a common secret that Kerigan hated the boy. He hated him with all the might of his heart. Then... five years ago, the boy killed Kerigan." "What!?" "Yes, he did. Kerigan had taken him for a walk to talk to him outside Garden. I think he wanted to persuade the boy to leave the Gunblade to Kerigan's younger son, Seth. Seth was not Espera's son; Kerigan had been married before, but his wife died. So, Kerigan took the boy a walk, and during that, the boy killed Kerigan, the best SeeD ever to cross Garden." "I can't believe it." "Neither could I. Adrian used to worship Kerigan. He had taught him everything he knew. But I suppose that the blood of a demon can never change. His nature seemed to have lashed out. The largest piece we found >From Kerigan was his left hand...the boy had blasted him to pieces." "!!!" "Espera died the following winter. I'm sure that Kerigan's death killed her. Soon after that, the boy caused the death of a young student, a girl named Mandy Fersans. That was all I could take. I sent him to the DD Prison. He tried to escape, and the Galbadians sent a battalion after him. He was... 17 then, but he destroyed almost all of that battalion." "Good Lord!" "...And now, I've brought him back." "Isn't this risking your neck Sir?" "It is, but...I think I know Adrian. Zerel will sway him to our goal. After his mother's death, Adrian gave all his attention and affection to Zerel, his younger brother, and son of Kerigan and Espera. I trust Zerel with my life, that's why I'm sure he will sway him." "But...then why are you sending him and the others to this mission? It's clear..." "I know Edward. I know..." "Look out Zerel!!" Adrian cried out as a Ruby Dragon opened his jaws to attack with his breath attack. "Shell!!" Zerel cast on both of them, and managed to reduce the damage. "Arh! That's hot!" he commented after wards. "Blizzaga!!" Adrian cried out as he cast the powerful ice spell on the dragon. The dragon was jolted, but it sustained. "Step back Zerel! I want to finish it myself!!" Adrian bawled and readied his Lion Heart. "Aura!" he cried out as he cast on himself the magic aura of power. He threw back his arm that held the gunblade and dashed up to the Ruby Dragon. Once he got close he swung his arm with force and 'slapped' the dragon's head with the blade, making a deep cut at the side. Then, holding the gunblade with both hands attacked repeatedly, with wide reaper moves, left and right strikes and he didn't forget to pull the trigger as he did so. Renzokuken. With the last diagonal strike, the dragon let one last roar and fell on the ground dead. Adrian wiped his forehead panting. "I see that you'll never loose your shape Adrian." Zerel commented. "Your fighting has greatly improved Zerel. You've impressed me." Zerel smiled with satisfaction. He felt happy to see his older brother after such long time. "I just practiced while you were away." "I'm glad about that. I'm afraid that we'll need as many good fighters as we can get now." "What?...You mean about this situation with the demon portal you were talking about?" Adrian nodded, as he passed the Lion Heart to his belt. "...You've taken it seriously, haven't you?" "Yeah. Listen to me as I say this Zerel, fighting the Vergarals will be a living hell. Many will die, and the world will find itself on the verge of perdition." "...But we can win, can't we?" "It's a 60 to 40 stake...with the scale leaning towards the demons." "Oh man..." "I sure hope Evans knows what he's doing. Cause one wrong move here is enough to send us all dead, the world included. It's going to be pure luck if we win. I'm going to try and do what Evans asked me to. Seal that damned portal and get it over with...the demons that'll get stuck here will loose their power and die off, since they'll get cut off from their main home of power..." Adrian said sceptical. Just then, the intercom sent out an order. "Adrian, please report to my office." Evans' voice said. "And bring Zerel with you. I repeat, Adrian, please report to my office with Zerel..." The two of them looked at each other, then headed off for Evans' office in a steady pace. "Thank you for coming." Evans said, coughing lightly to clear his voice. Adrian held back that scornful laughter he wanted to throw, and just pulled a wry face that went unnoticed by Headmaster Evans. "I've decided on this portal situation. I will send you, Adrian, to the area where the portal has opened, and I want you to try and seal it. However..." Evans made a pause that made Adrian go suspicious. "I will have a team of SeeDs escort you..." "Forget it Sir. I work alone, and alone only. I don't wish to take others to the grave with me. After all, I don't think there would be anyone that would want to be with me." "You will do as I say Adrian. Don't forget that the fate of your little mortal rear lies within my hands." Evans said, loosing his composure for a moment. "You will be escorted by a team. Zerel will be included..." "No! I will not put my brother in danger! I disagree with your decision!" "I do not care whether you agree or disagree mongrel! You will obey me and have your brother escort you! Zerel has skills that will be useful in this crusade." "He is not experienced enough! It is beyond his powers!" Zerel watched this debate go on for less than a few moments. "I will go." he said determined. "Zerel..." Adrian said. "No Adrian! I have to join you. I want to prove that I am worthy of our family's legacy. You can't stop me from coming!" "I will not allow you to throw yourself into your own grave!!" Zerel's reaction was far from anyone had expected. He raised his fist and punched Adrian on the face, right below the cheek. Adrian's head was turned aside from the force, and a light cracking sound was heard. Zerel took an expression as if he had hurt more than Adrian had. The other people in the office watched the scene pathetically. "I will follow you in this mission whether you like it or not! I'll never give up on you." Zerel said. "I am no longer a child you need to take care of. I can protect myself." Adrian wiped some blood from the side of his mouth and with another light cracking sound set his jaw back in place, and looked at Zerel through the eyes. He knew his brother had changed much since he had last seen him. Changed so much...grown up so much...Adrian could not ignore his reasons. He understood his desire to prove himself, but still he was worried. "Fine...I'll give in to your request, but don't think I'll be soft with you from now on. You chose to prove that you are what your heart claims to be, and I wont object to that." "Good." Zerel said sternly, though he was happy his brother agreed. Adrian turned back to Evans. "Alright, after this little squabble has been solved Sir, who are the other lunatics that have the guts to follow a half-demon in this little 'excursion'?" Adrian asked with sarcasm. "Keep your sarcasm to yourself Adrian. I'm dispatching two other, excel SeeDs with you. Thrustwill, step up please." Evans said, nodding to a man standing on a corner. Jade Thrustwill stepped up before Adrian. He was a tall and strong man, about 27 years old, and looked like he had came out of many battles in his life. There was a terrible scar, brown crossing his face, starting from the left side of his head, where the hair started, crossing the cheek, cutting the nose in half and lowering steadily till the upper part of the neck. His eyes were strange; they looked like a tiger's, yellowish brown and sparkling. His face was mostly frowned and mean-looking. "Trustwill is an expert in magic and GF. He will be a useful asset to your team. His magic will surely will put you out of nasty situations. After all, his experience in battle will be valuable." Evans said. "I hope you understand that teaming up with me is a tricky situation." Adrian told to Jade. "I'm a little unpredictable and its guaranteed that you'll never agree with my decisions." "I'm ready to face off anything in my way my friend. I willingly follow you in this 'excursion' as you call it. I will either prove to be a great magic user, or I'll die trying." "Well your determination is admirable. But it'll get you nowhere. Except perhaps the grave." Adrian said. Jade gave him a calm, but strong look. "And then there is Jesary. Jesary! Step up." Evans said. The girl that had watched Adrian's return back to Garden stepped up before him. She looked at Adrian with a steady and sure look. She was a rather pretty girl, but her sharp look was quite masculine. "I am Kiara Jesary. I want to aide in this crusade against demons. They recently attacked my hometown and I want my revenge from them." she said proudly. "...And what about me? Does my nature make me your next most possible target?" Adrian asked sarcastically. "That will depend solely on your behaviour. Should you try to join the demons, you'll be the first to die." Kiara replied sharply. "Fine, have it your way people. I won't be counting much on you." Adrian said. "As you see Sir, I'll accept your team with me. But I warn you, their deaths will not be my fault." "We shall see of that Adrian. Don't provoke your fate, and you may actually get to walk away alive and in one part when this is over." Evans bellowed. Adrian got angry. "Threats don't get by on me Evans." he hissed. Immidiatly, six SeeDs pointed their guns at him. "As you see I'm prepared. Stop snearing me Adrian. You have a job to do. You and your team will depart at first light tomorrow. Get some rest and prepare yourselves. Dismissed." Evans said. Adrian turned to leave the office followed by Zerel. Kiara and Jade followed him as well. "Adrian, wait." Kiara said. Adrian turned to her. "Yes?" "Look, I am sorry I spoke out of turn back at the Headmaster's office. But you see, he dislikes you deeply and showing openly that I agree to your causes would put me at dismay with him." Kiara apologised. "I hope I did not offend you." "Forget it. We're soldiers, you and I. I understand your emotional confusion. Demons attacking your hometown is a big deal. I apologise as well for my offensive behaviour, but the Headmaster's behaviour can only make me furious. And I apologise to you too Zerel. Maybe you're right; I might have underestimated you." "That's ok Adrian. I'm sorry too for punching you." "Just forget it everyone. If we are to go to this mission as a team, we need to have nothing between us." "...By the way, Jade over here and I follow you for the same reason...Well, Evans doesn't really have us in great favour..." "I don't understand." "...We're considered outcasts in the Garden society." Jade explained. "We have some...past that makes us repulsive to others. So we thought it would be better if we followed you. Nevertheless, we'll be more welcomed anywhere than here." "...I see. Then I'll gladly accept your allegiance. But I warn you, this mission will be very hard. We are all risking our very lives, with few hopes to gain something." "It doesn't matter." Jade said. "The way we are faced by the world makes me feel that death might be better." Adrian nodded with comprehension. Then he turned to Zerel. "You..." he said. "I surely hope that you're just nuts or anything. I can't believe you've just decided to dupe yourself in this. Don't you understand its dangerous?" "That's the reason I want to join you. You'll need all the help you can get. And I'm willing to go till the ends of the world to help you." Zerel said stubbornly. Adrian sighed and looked down, bringing his hand to his forehead. "Goodness, what am I to do?...Zerel you're my only brother, the only family I have left. What shall become of me if something happens to you?" "You'll remain the last of the Leonharts, and nothing less. You'll just have to put on your shoulders alone the responsibility to bring pride and glory to our family. So far I have shared that burden with you." "Zerel, we're not talking about silly family glories and prides! This is about the fate of the world!" "The better. We shall throw to the world that despises you a hot, nasty piece of fat in the eye." "...I can't change your mind, can I?" "No." "Fine, have it your way. But I warn you again. I won't be soft on you in this crusade. You'll do as I say, and nothing less, am I understood?" "Yes." Zerel said. He knew this sharpness came from his brother interest in is well being. But now it was his chance to prove he was a completed warrior of his own right. He would prove to himself many things... The other two watched the scene silent, out of respect. "...Shall we go and prepare ourselves? And where shall we meet tomorrow morning? We must depart as soon as possible." Kiara said. "Alright...We meet at 5 o'clock sharp at the Front Gate." Adrian said. "Make sure your equipment is strong and that you're really prepared for the hardest battles of your lives." and that was the end of it.
