This is the second part of my fanfic ‘First and Last’. Hope that you’ll enjoy it. forceflow@fantasysquare.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First and Last Pt.II Chapter 3: Reemergence Meanwhile, on another world at the same time… “Get me those soil samples now! This isn’t a holiday resort, this is a laboratory! We’re here to study this pooling of Mako energy! Now get me those soil samples!” “Yes doctor, right away!” The aide scurried away to collect the sample, eager to get away from the fuming doctor Fiji. The doctor sighed, good help was so hard to find nowadays… He paused that train of thought and began typing his report. “Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep!” The doctor awoke with a start,“Wha, what!” Great, I fell asleep. Guiltily, he looked at his watch. He had been asleep for 2 hours. He stretched and walked over to the console. It was the Makometer. The doctor froze…the readings were going off the scale! The Mako radiation in this area was already well above normal. An unprotected man would have died of Mako poisoning in seconds and yet the readings were still rising! “Bleep, Bleep, Bleep, Bleep!” Now it was the motion detector. The doctor was getting scared. The detector showed something big was coming this way. Really, REALLY BIG! “Computer! Analysis all available data and create a computer simulation now!” The computer buzzed and complied with the order. It wasn’t long before the simulation was complete. Whatever it was the thing was coming up from the crust. Apparently the accumulation of Mako energies was an attempt to stop the progress of the thing and for better or for worse it was only able to slow it down. Fiji was excited. “Get me a direct line to the president of Shinra!” “President Reeve here.” “Sir, this is the Neo-Jenova Laboratory!” “Go ahead.” “We have a major breakthrough! The Mako accumulation is due to the movement of large objects beneath the planet. These objects are trying to get to the surface of the planet and the Mako energy is attempting to stop their progress but it is only able to slow it down.” “Your conclusion Doctor?” “I have no idea sir…hold on. Something’s coming up.” “Doctor?” “Shit! Sir it’s the unidentified object, it’s headed this way!” “Doctor, get your team out of there right now!”Reeve was sweating bullets. Fiji was in a near state of panic. “No way sir, we can’t evacuated the laboratory in time! We Aaarrrggg…!” The transmission broke down as the laboratory exploded. Reeve sat back in his seat. It was too late to help them…or was it? He picked up the phone, “Get me Cloud Strife. Prepare Highwind II for launch.” Chapter 4: Enter The Weapon It wasn’t long before everyone had boarded Highwind II and the ship took off and headed for the Neo-Jenova Laboratory. Reeve was once again controlling Cat Sith the robot. Everyone else was there in person. Cloud, Tifa, Red XIII, Barret, Yuffie, Cid and Vincent. They were like a second family to him. And just like all families there were always quarrels. Just like now. Yuffie and Cid had been playing cards and both had pulled out the Ace of Spades. A furious verbal battle was taking place and Barret and Vincent were standing at one side. Barret was smiling, listening to the profanity being thrown back and forth. Red XIII was standing at one side absorbed in his thoughts. And the famous couple… They were nowhere to be seen. Basically meaning that they were on the deck for some privacy. Reeve smiled. It was good to be back. It was 6.00pm, Junon Time when Highwind II reached the site of the Neo-Jenova Laboratory. Everyone was in the cockpit. It was too dangerous to be on the deck. The Mako radiation levels were too high to be safe. “Oh SHIT.” Cid cursed. No one else had anything to add. The site was a disaster area. The lab was everywhere; pieces of it were strewn all over the place. And with it were the mortal remains of the world’s most promising and bravest scientist who had volunteered to be stationed at the Neo-Jenova facility to study this unprecedented event. As bad as all this seemed, they paled in comparison to the gaping hole in the ground. Whatever it was it was now long gone. There were large tracks and signs of the creature taking flight. The forces that had tried to hold the beast were still evident on the ground. Raw Mako energy rolled across the land, trying to reenter the Lifestream. Cloud’s eyes were set. He recognized the tracks. There could only be one creature big enough to cause such big tracks. It had to be a… Weapon. To Be Continued…
