"Rinoa?" "....Rinoa!?" Squall screamed in horror as he watched, helplessly watched his beloved Rinoa sufficate. The cold hard space pressing in, it was as if he could feel the entire galaxy weep as the life left this beautiful, vibrant young woman. "No! Come on Rinoa, don't go! You'll be alright, You'll be fine!" ".....Please don't die!" Squall uttered as he used the last of his thruster's energy to reach his beautiful angel. Finally after what seemed like an eternity of a minute, he was suit-to- suit with the sufficating lost beauty of the world. He frantically moved his arms around her. Though his arms were pressed tightly against her suit, he felt numb, as though this wasn't reality, as though it wasn't any type of reality. Squall shed a frantic tear as he wished that he could have spent these last moments with his angel without these suits, though it kept Squall alive at the moment, it felt more like a prison. Rinoa began gasping for air, not finding any she felt as though her lungs were about to explode. Then, without warning the glass on her helmet shattered from the suction, sending shards in all directions. Squall gasped in horror, as one of the peices put a perfect three inch cut in the arm of his suit. Even though he knew what it ment for him, it didn't seem to matter. Nothing mattered now, only Rinoa.... Now struggling, almost in a spasm, she looked at Squall, pleading for help with her eyes, she slowly sank into the inevitable death wating for her, as she released one last tear..... "NOOOO!!!!" Squall screamed as he woke with a start in Cid's office. "Alright Squall, we won't use hotdogs at the millenial fair, if it's that big a deal to you...." "Are you alright, Squall?" a soft voice came from behind him, he turned to see his beautiful angel. As if he hadn't heard the questions from Cid, he quickly grabbed Rinoa and gave her the most heartfelt hug he ever had before. "What's wrong?....Squall?" But he couldn't answer, he only shed a solitary tear, which landed on the back of her blouse... "We should continue this meeting later..." Cid injected awkwardly. Reluctantly everyone left the large room, quietly mumbling amongst themselves as they went. Slowly Zell aproached the embracing couple, and quietly wispered, "Is he ok?" "He'll be fine..." Rinoa said, unsure of herself. Then with an awkward nodd, Zell quickly vanished from the room. After Zell had been gone for several minutes, Squall reluctantly removed his arms from around Rinoa. Watching them as they fell to his side, almost expecting them to still have the heavy sleeves of the space suit prison tightly wrapped around them. Before Rinoa could further inquire what had caused this sudden upspring of emotion, Cid re-entered the room, and noticing that they were no longer holding each other, slightly smiling, he began walking toward the couple. "......What was that, Squall?" Cid asked, secretly hoping that this would not bring up any more emotion. Wiping away a second tear that had been forming in his eye, he slowly responded to the question. "I'm sorry, I..." "I know, I was already told by Dr. Kadowaki about the visions that you've been having lately." Squall timidly nodded in relief that he would not have to explain. "I know that it's not your fault, but I cannot have you constantly zoning out when we are discussing important matters." "But these are not important matters, sir. We were discussing hotdogs, h o t d o g s." Rinoa quickly interjected in Squall's defense. "Yes, this time, but what of when we are discussing a war?" "I.....I'm sorry, sir." Squall said at almost a whisper. He then walked out of the large office, before anything else could be said. (What's wrong with me?) (Why do I keep having these nightmares?) {They weren't nightmares...} Squall quickly stopped, standing straight, his eyes slowly widened. Slowly looking around the walk-way, taking in all the sights, he searched for the unknown origin of the voice. Finaly satisfied that if there had been someone there, they were gone now, he continued his walk to the training area. After what felt like only a split second, Squall was inside the lush green forest of a training area. gritting his teeth as he went, Squall hunted for something to fight, something to take his anguish out on. Squall was just ariving at the fallen log, when he heard something moving in the bushes infront of him. Feeling his fist roll up, he slowly approached the brush, trying not to draw attention from any possible unknown threats lurking behind. Suddenly, there it was, the largest T-Rexaur he had ever layed eyes on. A grin began to grow on his face, as the T-Rexaur began to sniff the air, sensing his presence. Squall decided to wait until it knew of him before engaging in combat. Then, it stood up straight, and quickly dove at Squall, he easily rolled out of the way and reached for his Gunblade. "What!?" Squall uttered, when he had discovered that his gunblade was not at his side. It was too late to run, The T-Rexaur had already recovered from it's misattack, and was headed right for the helpless Squall. As the T-Rexaur charged, it's scales glissened in the sunlight, as Squall backed up hoping to find some form of cover, only to back right into a tree. Then, before there was chance to do anything else, the T-Rexaur had it's teeth wrapped around Squall's Torsoe. Gritting his teeth with pain, Squall was helpless to the will of the enraged T- Rexaur. The T-Rexaur began to violently swing Squall in all directions, trying to end him, so that it might feast. Not capable of withstanding the pain any longer, Squall let out a single shriek of pain, as one of the T-Rexaur's teeth began to pierce his side. Just as Squall felt that he was at his end, A gunshot rang out through the training area, and Squall could feel the T-Rexaur's grip loosening, then, it dropped Squall altogether, and collapsed. As Squall Hit the ground, he turned to face the now limp T-Rexaur, only to find that it had a large hole, the size of Squall's fist through it's temple. "Are you alright!?" Irvine bellowed as he ran towards Squall. "I'm fine." Squall said, as he stood, Only to find emence pain in it, he fell back to the ground. "Fine my butt!" Irvine said worriedly. As he began to lift Squall off the ground, he noticed a puddle of blood benieth him. Frantically searching for the source of the thick red puddle, he rolled Squall onto his back, to discover a three inch hole in Squall's side. "Holy...!!" Was all Irvine could utter, as he lifted Squall to his feet, and with a new found strength, he dragged him to the infirmary. "Rinoa, something happened to Squall..." A nervous Zell reported. "What do you mean!?" Rinoa demanded. "He was attacked by a T-Rexaur, it was the largest recorded in Garden so far." "Well where is he!?" "He's in the infirmary..." And as quickly as Zell had finished his sentence, Rinoa was out the door, running frantically to the infirmary. (I can't believe he would do this to me!) (I'm going to kill him!) She thought just as she was arriving at the infirmary, she walked through the doors, and saw her love, collapsed on a bed, and her heart melted. "Oh, Squall!!" Was all she could utter as she fell to her knees at his side. "I'm fine." He stated, though they both knew that it wasn't true. She slowly rose to her feet, and began to inspect him: pants covered in dirt and blood, shirt torn to pieces loosely hanging by mear threads, That once pure white shirt now tanted with it's master's own blood. "What were you thinking going up against that thing!?"She scolded as she knelt down to embrace her wounded love. "I could have taken it, I just forgot to bring my gunblade."He stated in his own defense. "If you had died.....I would kill you."They both grinned over this, as they sank into a deep kiss. As quickly as the kiss had started it was interupted by the sound of the door sliding open. As the pitter-patter of 4 sets of feet settled in the doorway of Squall's infirmary bed. Without looking and only a few centimeters of distance between their lips, the couple uttered in sync, "Hi guys, come on in." Then once again they grinned at each other, as Squall sat up in his bed, and Rinoa rested against the wall at his side. Then the barrage of questioning started. "How are you feeling??", "Was it really the biggest recorded in Garden?", "How did you get away?", "When are you able to get out of here?" Through all of this Squall looked at his angel, only to find that she was looking right back at him, as she passed him a reassuring smile, he began to answer the inquiries... Finally after what seemed like hours, the attention given Squall receded, and ended all together, as he was left alone with Rinoa. "So did you sleep at all before I got here?" Rinoa asked, almost reminding Squall of Matron's tone when he had stayed up past curfew as a child. "I slept some..." "Some?" "Yes, some." ".....Did you dream?" On hearing this, Squall sat up in his bed now covered in flowers and cards. "I dreamt a little..." "What was it about?" She further inquired. (Why is she asking me so many questions?) (Why is she so interested in what I dreamt about?) "I don't remember..." (Why did I say that?) (I remember what I dreamt about.) "Well, would you tell me a story then?" She said as she curled up beside him. "About what?" "Tell me about when you were little, when you and the gang were all little." As Squall started his story, Rinoa laying her head down ever so slowly, closed her eyes, and began to dream..... * * * * * * * * * * * * Coming soon: Chapter II: Visions, and Fantasies
