INTRODUCTION - WHAT IS Materia? ---------------------------------- When Lifestream energy is extracted from the Planet in the form of Mako, it can be crystallised into orbs known as Materia. Because the knowledge of the Ancients is contained within the Lifestream energy, the crystals also contain this knowledge. Anyone who possesses this knowledge, either directly or through Materia, can use and command the powers of the Planet as they wish. Or, in short, equipping Materia gives a person magical powers and abilities. In FINAL FANTASY VII, Materia is the means by which you can customise your character's abilities. By equipping in the right combinations, a character can become a powerful healer, a summoner of legendary monsters of incredible power, or a useful all-round character. There are limitless possibilities for you to play around with. 2. TYPES OF Materia ------------------- There are five types of Materia, distinguished by their colour. a. Magic Materia (Green) This is the most common Materia. By equipping it, a character gains the ability to use certain spells, depending on which Materia is equipped. For example, "Restore" Materia allows the use of the [Cure] spell. As the Materia levels up (see 3b), more powerful spells become available. b. Summon Materia (Red) My personal favourite. Equipping a Summon Materia enables the user to call upon a monster during battle who will attack the enemy. Initially a Summon monster can only be used once per battle, but increasing the Materia's level increases the number of uses up to five. c. Command Materia (Yellow) Equipping this type of Materia adds extra options to a character's Command Window during battle. Examples include "Sense", which allows you to scan an enemy's HP, weaknesses etc, and Steal, which allows you to (surprisingly) steal items from the enemy (assuming they have any). Most Command Materias have only one level, but a select number have more than one available command, and high-level commands are very handy (such as [Flash] and [4x-Cut]) d. Support Materia (Blue) Powerless on their own, these types of Materia are designed to augment the abilities of other Materia. The most common use is to provide All effects on magic spells, which allows it to strike all targets (for a loss of some power). Support Materia must be equipped in linked slots for it to have any effect (see 3b). Levelling up allows the effect to be applied more than once in a battle. e. Independent Materia (Purple) With a few exceptions, these Materia provide no extra usable abilities. Their main purpose is to supplement a character's stats and induce other effects in game. See the Materia Summary for a more detailed explanation. 3. EQUIPPING Materia -------------------- Once you have Materia in your possession, you use it as follows: a. The Materia Menu Press [MENU] (Triangle) to call up the menu and select the Materia option, followed by the character you want to equip. The following screen will appear (example has "Restore" highlighted): +-----------------------------------------------------------+---------+ | +---------+ | Materia | | | | Cloud *1 Wpn: Enhance Sword *2 +---------+ | | | LV 99 Check *3 [ ()-() ()-() ()-() ()-() ] *6 | | | Picture | | | | | HP 9999/9999 Arm: Rune Armlet | | | | MP 999/ 999 Arrange *4 [ ()-() ()-() ()-() ()-() ] | | +---------+ | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Equips "Restore" magic *5 | +-----------------------------------------------+---------------------+ | () Restore * * * * * *7 | -> () Restore *12 | | AP 0 *8 | () Fire | | To next level 2500 *9 | () Ice | | | () Lightning | | Ability List *10 Equip Effect *11 | () All | | Cure Strength -01 | () Barrier | | {Cure2} Magic +01 | () Choco/Mog | | {Regen} MaxHP -02% | () Sense | | {Cure3} MaxMP +02% | () Long Range | | | () Steal As Well | | | () Shiva | +-----------------------------------------------+---------------------+ Notes on this diagram: *1 The currently selected character. Pressing [PAGEUP] and [PAGEDOWN] (L1 and R1) will cycle through the characters in your party. Their HP and MP are also displayed. *2 The current character's weapon and armour. To change the character's equipment, press [SWITCH] (Square) to cycle between the Equip and Materia screens. *3 [Check] command: Pressing [OK] (Circle) will bring up the Command Window for the character, based on the equipped Materia. This allows you to see what you will be able to do in battle with this character with the current configuration of Materia. For example, if a Magic Materia is equipped, then a [Magic] option will be available. *4 [Arrange] command: Pressing [OK] will bring up a submenu with the options [Arrange], [Exchange], [Remove All] and [Trash]. These are described below: Arrange: Sorts all the unequipped Materia into order by type. Exchange: Allows you to directly exchange individual Materia between party members. You can also swap all the Materia of two characters in one go, whether they are in the party or not. The same applies to each character's weapon and armour. Confused? An example is necessary here: Suppose you want to swap Materia between Cloud and Yuffie. By pressing [OK] on Cloud's name, then pressing it again on Yuffie's name, all of Cloud's Materia will be swapped with Yuffie's. This is handy when you change party members and want the new members to carry on with the old member's Materia without having to swap it manually. You can also swap the Materia between a person's weapon and armour, or one person's weapon and another person's armour, and so on. At any point, if the recipient has insufficient slots, then the extra Materia will remain with its original owner. Remove All: Removes all the Materia from the character's weapon and armour. Trash: Allows you to dispose of Materia... ahem, I mean, "return some Materia to the Planet"... I've never actually used this option, as it's much more lucrative to sell Materia. Why get rid of any at all, I hear? Well, unfortunately you can only carry 200 individual Materias, and when it starts dividing (see 3b) you may find that you accumulate it at an alarming rate. *5 Materia Summary. A short description of the Materia's effect. *6 Weapon and Armour slots. These affect how many Materia you can equip and how fast they will grow (see 3b). *7 The Materia's name and level. As a Materia gains AP (Ability Points) it will level up and become more powerful. The number of solid stars indicates the level. Most Materia have four or five stars. Materias with an Elemental property will have their element displayed underneath their name (e.g. Lightning) *8 The current amount of AP accumulated by the Materia. Gain AP by winning battles. *9 The amount of AP you need to gain to raise the Materia's level. *10 The Abilities available from this Materia. To begin with, only the first ability (the lowest level spell for a Magic Materia) will be available. The others will be greyed out (I've used curly braces as this is only a text file, but they will be greyed on the real screen). In general, each level added to the Materia adds one extra Ability. *11 Equip Effect. This is how your character's stats will be affected by equipping this Materia. In general, equipping Magic and Summon Materia will lessen your physical stats (Strength, Vitality and HP) and increase your magical stats (Magic, Spirit and MP). Independent Materia will usually boost one of your stats. *12 Materia Stock. This lists all your currently unequipped Materia. b. Slots and Growth When you look at your weapon and armour, you will notice the circular receptacles present on each. These are your "Slots", and each one can hold one piece of Materia. Different weapons have different slot configurations, and some also have different growth rates. In general, most weapons have a growth rate of "Normal". This means that all Materia equipped on that weapon will gain AP at a rate of 1x, i.e. each Materia gains the same amount of AP as you earn from battle. Materia that is not equipped on a current party member will not gain any AP, so make sure your most powerful Materia is always equipped. Some weapons have a growth rate of "Double". Unsurprisingly, this means that each Materia will receive twice as much AP as you earn, and a few even have a "Triple" growth rate - handy for certain Materia which require exorbitant amounts of AP to level up. There is also a "Nothing" growth rate. Materia in these slots gains NO AP WHATSOEVER, which might seem pointless, but unfortunately all the Ultimate Weapons have "Nothing" slots, so it's a balance between attack power and Materia growth. Most Materia don't require too much AP, but Double growth slots can be useful for just getting that little bit extra to gain the next level. When a Materia reaches its highest level (i.e. when all the stars are solid), the Materia is MASTERED. At this point, you will see a message " was born". What this means is that the Mastered Materia has divided and produced a new, first level Materia of the same type. So, you can go round and master this new Materia and get another, and another, and so on ad nauseum. Mastering Materia has benefits other than getting you a new Materia. Mastered Materia sells for considerable amounts of Gil (a Mastered All Materia sells for 1,400,000 Gil!). There is also a hidden extra with Mastered Materia. See section 5 for details. The configuration of the slots is important too. While you can put any Materia in any slot, to use them effectively, sometimes you will need to pair them. Linked slots (which have a bar between them) allow a Support Materia to supplement the Materia equipped in the other slot. If you don't wish to use Support Materia, then the linked slots can be used as two single slots without any fuss. However, Support Materia cannot work in single slots - they won't be usable, although they will gain AP. For example, equipping a Fire (Magic) Materia in one slot of Cloud's Buster Sword and an All (Support) in the other slot, will allow you to cast [Fire] on all targets in battle. Some support Materia will not work with certain Materia - see section 4 for details. c. Equipping Materia OK, enough waffling. I can tell you're just itching to equip some Materia and start using it. To do so, you need to select a slot and a Materia. It doesn't matter which you choose first (i.e. you can select a slot and then choose a Materia to put in it, or you can select a Materia first and then choose where to put it). So, to equip the Restore Materia on Cloud's weapon, select a slot with [OK], then locate the Restore Materia and press [OK] on it to complete the equipping. If the selected slot already contains a Materia, it and the new Materia will switch places. You can also rearrange the Materia Stock list to your liking in the same way. As you equip Materia, pay attention to the Equip Effects. In general, as you equip Magic and Summon Materia, your physical abilities will be reduced, and your magical abilities will increase. You may need to use Potions and Ethers to fill your HP and MP bars to full if the maximum values increase. Remember to use [Check] to see your updated Command Window as you equip different Materias. 4. Materia INFORMATION ---------------------- The following section provides a complete list of all the Materia in Final Fantasy VII. a. Magic Materia +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BARRIER | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Barrier 0 | Strength -02 | | MBarrier 5000 | Vitality -01 | | Reflect 15000 | Magic +02 | | Wall 30000 | Spirit +01 | | MASTER 45000 | MaxHP -05% | | | MaxMP +05% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 700,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | These spells are used to reduce the damage that your party receives | | for a short time (indicated by each character's [Barrier] bar). | | An important point to note is that [MBarrier] also reduces the | | amount of HP recovered by [Cure] spells. | | [Reflect] can reflect single-target spells up to four times, but | | it will not work against spells that strike all targets anyway, | | such as [Comet2]. Make sure you remember which characters have | | [Reflect] cast, as it can be disastrous if you reflect something | | like [Haste] onto your opponents! | | [Wall] casts [Barrier] and [MBarrier] simultaneously. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | COMET | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Comet 0 | Strength -02 | | Comet2 12000 | Vitality -01 | | MASTER 60000 | Magic +02 | | | Spirit +01 | | | MaxHP -05% | | | MaxMP +05% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 1,400,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | You can find this Materia in the City of the Ancients, just before | | you descend the hidden stairway to find Aeris. | | [Comet2] is a devastating spell which deals out roughly 9000 damage | | spread amongst all your opponents, which is a lot at that stage of | | the game. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | CONTAIN | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Freeze 0 | Strength -04 | | Break 5000 | Vitality -02 | | Tornado 10000 | Magic +04 | | Flare 15000 | Spirit +02 | | MASTER 60000 | MaxHP -10% | | | MaxMP +10% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect Confusion, | | | Petrify, Stop | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | A very powerful Materia which is most effective when paired with | | [Added Effect]. The [Petrify] status renders an opponent disabled | | instantly. | | To get this Materia, you need to go to Mideel and give a Mimett | | Green to the White Chocobo (the one with the hyperactive kid). | | Choose to tickle it behind the ears and it should give you the | | Materia. Note that you must have a [Seal] Materia already in your | | possession. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | DESTRUCT | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | DeBarrier 0 | Strength -02 | | DeSpell 6000 | Vitality -01 | | Death 10000 | Magic +02 | | MASTER 45000 | Spirit +01 | | | MaxHP -05% | | | MaxMP +05% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 630,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect Death | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | You can get this Materia from the basement of the Shinra Mansion in | | Nibelheim when you first reach it in Disc 1 (Sephiroth pelts you | | with it!). [DeBarrier] will remove [Barrier], [MBarrier], [Reflect] | | & [Wall]. [DeSpell] has the same effect, but also removes any other | | positive status, such as [Haste]. [Death]... is self-explanatory. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | EARTH | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Quake 0 | Strength -01 | | Quake2 6000 | Magic +01 | | Quake3 22000 | MaxHP -02% | | MASTER 40000 | MaxMP +02% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 105,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Earth | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Of the low-level magic spells, [Earth] is slightly more powerful | | than [Fire], [Ice] and [Lightning], however it will not work | | against flying enemies. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | EXIT | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Escape 0 | Strength -01 | | Remove 10000 | Magic +01 | | MASTER 30000 | MaxHP -02% | | | MaxMP +02% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 700,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Although it's quite fun to see your opponents sucked into a black | | hole, it is not recommended as you won't get anything for it, AP & | | Gil-wise. Basically, both these spells allow you to end a battle | | quickly. [Remove] is more useful as you still get EXP, which you | | don't get if you [Escape] (obviously). | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | FIRE | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Fire 0 | Strength -01 | | Fire2 2000 | Magic +01 | | Fire3 18000 | MaxHP -02% | | MASTER 35000 | MaxMP +02% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost 500 | Selling Price 42,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Fire | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | [Fire] is a standard spell that should always be at your disposal. | | [Fire] is most effective against beasts (wolves etc) and any ice | | creatures (in Gaea's Cliff and the Icicle region). | | Nanaki (Red XIII) is equipped with this when you meet him. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | FULL CURE | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | 0 | Strength -04 | | Full Cure 3000 | Vitality -02 | | MASTER 100000 | Magic +04 | | | Spirit +02 | | | MaxHP -10% | | | MaxMP +10% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | You've probably noticed that there is no ability for this Materia | | at level 1. This is because you have to level up the Materia before | | you can use the spell, and this is true for [Ultima] and [Shield] | | as well. [Full Cure] will completely restore a character's HP, but | | at a cost of 99MP. Note that this is true for ANY target, including | | enemies, so you may find yourself restoring 60,000HP to Sephiroth! | | This Materia is found in the Item Shop in Cosmo Canyon, from Disc 2 | | onwards. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | GRAVITY | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Demi 0 | Strength -01 | | Demi2 10000 | Magic +01 | | Demi3 20000 | MaxHP -02% | | MASTER 40000 | MaxMP +02% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 560,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Gravity | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Found after you defeat Gi Nattak in Cosmo Canyon. | | This can be very effective against opponents with a lot of HP, as | | [Demi] spells do damage based on the character's current HP and | | ignore defence. The only problem is that you cannot actually kill | | an opponent with a [Gravity] spell. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | HEAL | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Poisona 0 | Strength -01 | | Esuna 12000 | Magic +01 | | Resist 52000 | MaxHP -02% | | MASTER 60000 | MaxMP +02% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 105,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Status changes are unavoidable (at least until you get a Ribbon), | | so it's helpful to be able to clear them up quickly. [Poisona] will | | remove Poison status, and [Esuna] will remove all negative status | | changes. [Resist] prevents any transformations from occurring to | | the target, so [Mini] and [Toad] become ineffective. Make sure that | | your character isn't already affected when you cast, or else they | | will be stuck like that for the rest of the battle! | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | ICE | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Ice 0 | Strength -01 | | Ice2 2000 | Magic +01 | | Ice3 18000 | MaxHP -02% | | MASTER 35000 | MaxMP +02% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost 500 | Selling Price 42,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Ice | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | You start the game with this Materia already equipped. [Ice] spells | | are effective on fire-based creatures. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | LIGHTNING | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Bolt 0 | Strength -01 | | Bolt2 5000 | Magic +01 | | Bolt3 15000 | MaxHP -02% | | MASTER 30000 | MaxMP +02% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost 500 | Selling Price 42,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Lightning | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | You start with this Materia. [Lightning] is very effective on | | machines and mechanical enemies. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | MYSTIFY | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Confu 0 | Strength -01 | | Berserk 12000 | Magic +01 | | MASTER 25000 | MaxHP -02% | | | MaxMP +02% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 420,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect Confusion, Berserk | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | The [Mystify] spells cause the opponent to lose self-control. This | | is mainly for enemies that have the ability to heal themselves. | | By casting [Berserk], the affected character can do nothing except | | attack, however the damage they inflict is doubled. This makes this | | spell a bit of a double-edged sword. A character affected by | | [Confuse] will attack a random target until they receive physical | | damage. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | POISON | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Bio 0 | Strength -01 | | Bio2 5000 | Magic +01 | | Bio3 20000 | MaxHP -02% | | MASTER 38000 | MaxMP +02% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 105,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Poison | Added Effect Poison | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | [Poison] is very effective against human opponents, but is unlikely | | to affect mechanical enemies. It is also the only Materia which has | | both an [Elemental] and [Added Effect] property. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | RESTORE | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Cure 0 | Strength -01 | | Cure2 2500 | Magic +01 | | Regen 17000 | MaxHP -02% | | Cure3 25000 | MaxMP +02% | | MASTER 40000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost 750 | Selling Price 52500 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | The ability to restore your party's HP is of paramount importance, | | since it's uneconomical to rely on Potions all the time. I would | | recommend that you give each party member a [Restore] and [All] | | combination so that anyone can fix your team up if need be. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | REVIVE | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Life 0 | Strength -02 | | Life2 45000 | Vitality -01 | | MASTER 55000 | Magic +02 | | | Spirit +01 | | | MaxHP -05% | | | MaxMP +05% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost 3000 | Selling Price 210,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | It's inevitable that at some point one of your characters will fall | | in battle. At first, Phoenix Downs will be sufficient, but you soon | | reach the point where they enemy can put you down as fast as you | | can revive them. The [Life] spell restores more HP than a Phoenix | | Down, hopefully giving you enough time to restore the rest of their | | HP. [Life2], although expensive in MP allows you to save a turn as | | you don't need to heal as well. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | SEAL | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Sleepel 0 | Strength -01 | | Silence 10000 | Magic +01 | | MASTER 20000 | MaxHP -02% | | | MaxMP +02% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 210,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect Sleep, Silence | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Personally, I don't use [Sleepel] that much, since it wears off as | | soon as you attack. [Silence] is very handy, especially against | | enemies that rely heavily on magical power. The problem with these, | | and in fact most status magic is that it has a low success rate. A | | much more effective use is to pair with [Added Effect], since the | | chance of causing a successful status change with [Added Effect is] | | much higher, uses no MP and allows you to attack at the same time. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | SHIELD | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | 0 | Strength -04 | | Shield 10000 | Vitality -02 | | MASTER 100000 | Magic +04 | | | Spirit +02 | | | MaxHP -10% | | | MaxMP +10% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Found in the yellow area in the Northern Cave. | | As with [Full Cure], you need to hit level 2 before you can use the | | spell. [Shield] makes the target invincible for one attack. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | TIME | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Haste 0 | Strength -02 | | Slow 8000 | Vitality -01 | | Stop 20000 | Magic +02 | | MASTER 42000 | Spirit +01 | | | MaxHP -05% | | | MaxMP +05% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 420,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect Slow, Stop | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Doubling your speed = twice as many attacks = twice as much damage. | | [Haste] can often swing a battle by allowing you to get your attack | | in first almost every time. Sometimes a couple of seconds can mean | | the difference between restoring your ally's HP and having them | | floored before you can cast the spell. [Slow] and [Stop] are a pain | | when you get affected, so it's usually in your best interest to | | fix it up ASAP. Again, using them as [Added Effect] is more useful. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | TRANSFORM | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Mini 0 | Strength -01 | | Toad 8000 | Magic +01 | | MASTER 24000 | MaxHP -02% | | | MaxMP +02% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 350,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect Mini, Toad | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Cait Sith has this equipped when you meet him. It's always funny to | | see your enemies reduced to microscopic size, especially when they | | try and attack you... unless it's with magic, which is unaffected | | by their size. [Toad] is better, as it removes virtually all of the | | target's abilities (though soldiers will still inexplicably be able | | to chuck grenades at you. Go figure). As with all status magic, | | pairing it with [Added Effect] will give you a better chance of | | inflicting the status change. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | ULTIMA | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | 0 | Strength -04 | | Ultima 5000 | Vitality -02 | | MASTER 100000 | Magic +04 | | | Spirit +02 | | | MaxHP -10% | | | MaxMP +10% | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A or 50,000 | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | [Ultima]... The name says it all, really. A very powerful attack | | against all enemies. You get this Materia after you save/don't save | | North Corel from the speeding train. You get it for free if you | | save the town, but it'll cost you 50 grand if you mess up. So, | | don't mess up! | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ b. Summon Materia +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | ALEXANDER | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +01 | | Summon x2 25000 | Spirit +01 | | Summon x3 65000 | MaxHP -05% | | Summon x4 100000 | MaxMP +05% | | Summon x5, MASTER 150000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Holy | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Alexander's Judgement spell is the only usable Holy elemental | | Materia. Since [Holy] is effective on Dark monsters (such as those | | in the Northern Crater on Disc 3), pairing this with Elemental on a | | character's weapon almost guarantees that they will deal copious | | amounts of damage. | | This Materia is found in the Snow area from Disc 2 onwards. To find | | it, you first need to find the hot spring, which is southeast from | | the central tree on the map. Touch the hot spring, then search the | | southeast corner of the map to find a secret cave (this is hard to | | describe in words). Inside you will find a person. Talk to them and | | you will have to fight them. Win the battle and the monster will | | vanish, leaving behind the Materia. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BAHAMUT | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +01 | | Summon x2 20000 | Spirit +01 | | Summon x3 50000 | MaxHP -05% | | Summon x4 80000 | MaxMP +05% | | Summon x5, MASTER 120000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Found after defeating the Red Dragon in the Temple of the Ancients. | | Bahamut is a very powerful summon and never misses. It is | | particularly useful against Demon's Gate because of the neutral | | elemental property. At that point in the game it's hard to believe | | that there are two more powerful versions of him! | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | BAHAMUT ZERO | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +04 | | Summon x2 35000 | Spirit +04 | | Summon x3 120000 | MaxHP -10% | | Summon x4 150000 | MaxMP +15% | | Summon x5, MASTER 250000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | As you will see, progressive generations of Bahamut become more and | | more lazy. While Bahamut at least takes the time to come down and | | personally blow your enemies away, Bahamut ZERO doesn't even put in | | an appearance. Instead, he just vaporises them with a well-aimed | | particle beam from orbit. To get this Materia you will need both | | Bahamut and Neo Bahamut, plus you will need to have collected the | | Blue Huge Materia from Cid's rocket (see section 5). Examine the | | Blue Huge Materia after you've dropped it off in Cosmo Canyon and | | you'll receive the Bahamut ZERO Materia. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | CHOCO/MOG | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +01 | | Summon x2 2000 | MaxHP -02% | | Summon x3 14000 | MaxHP +02% | | Summon x4 25000 | | | Summon x5, MASTER 35000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Wind | Added Effect Stop | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Possibly one of the oddest summons, especially if you happen to | | cast the alternate summon style. the [Stop] effect is very handy if | | you need to buy a few turns to heal up (for example against Lost | | Number). The Materia is found at the Chocobo Ranch (surprisingly) | | but only before your first trip to the Northern Cave. To get it you | | need to talk to one of the chocobos in the outdoor pen and choose | | the first option to see a bizarre birdy dance. The wind elemental | | property also means that this Materia is very effective against | | flying monsters. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | HADES | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +04 | | Summon x2 35000 | Spirit +04 | | Summon x3 120000 | MaxHP -10% | | Summon x4 150000 | MaxMP +15% | | Summon x5, MASTER 250000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect Mini, Toad, | | | Sleep, Silence, | | | Poison, Confusion | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Yep, six - count 'em - SIX simultaneous status changes are possible | | with [Added Effect]. When summoned, Hades' Black Cauldron does all | | of the above, plus [Stop], [Paralyze], etc. Pretty much everything | | except the disable statuses ([Death], [Petrify]) will be cast (as | | long as the enemy is susceptible to it, natch). This Materia is | | found in the store room of the crashed Gelnika aeroplane after the | | submarine Huge Materia mini-game. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | IFRIT | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +01 | | Summon x2 5000 | MaxHP -02% | | Summon x3 20000 | MaxMP +02% | | Summon x4 35000 | | | Summon x5, MASTER 60000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Fire | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | You'll get this hothead after defeating Jenova*BIRTH. Nothing much | | to say, really, except save him for beasts and the Icicle area. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | KNIGHTS OF ROUND | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +08 | | Summon x2 50000 | Spirit +08 | | Summon x3 200000 | MaxHP -10% | | Summon x4 300000 | MaxMP +20% | | Summon x5, MASTER 500000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | The Term "overkill" springs to mind when using Knights Of Round. It | | really does need half a million AP to master it. | | Once you have this, all other attack magic becomes almost obsolete. | | In fact the only thing which can equal the damage these guys can | | dish out is Omnislash. The big difference between this and the | | other summons is that the other summons, no matter how powerful | | they may be, only hit once, so their maximum damage will be 9999. | | KoR on the other hand, hits thirteen times at up to 9999 per hit! | | A quick calculation reveals that this summon can deal out a maximum | | of 129,987HP - which should be enough for anyone! | | This Materia is known as a "Natural" Materia because it hasn't been | | made in a Mako Reactor (which may be why it's so darn powerful!) | | There are four in total, and you'll need a chocobo to reach them. | | Finding KoR requires the use of a Gold Chocobo, a fairly long | | process which I'll cover in a future FAQ. It's in a cave on an | | island in the far northeast corner of the map. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | KUJATA | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +01 | | Summon x2 22000 | Spirit +01 | | Summon x3 60000 | MaxHP -05% | | Summon x4 90000 | MaxMP +05% | | Summon x5, MASTER 140000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Definitely one of the more spectacular summons, Kujata hits enemies | | with [Lightning], [Ice], [Fire] and [Earth]. While this makes for | | some serious eye-candy, it can be a real problem. Why? Because, if | | the enemy is unaffected by, or worse, absorbs one of the mentioned | | elements, then any damage which could have been caused by the other | | elements will aslo be nullified or absorbed. Remember also that | | flying enemies will be unaffected. | | The Materia is found in the Sleeping Forest, north of Bone Village. | | You'll see it moving across the screen partially hidden by some | | trees. After a short time it will jump to the other side. Basically | | you need to watch where it appears, then wait there until it | | reappears, then quickly hit [OK] to grab it. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | LEVIATHAN | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +01 | | Summon x2 18000 | Spirit +01 | | Summon x3 38000 | MaxHP -05% | | Summon x4 70000 | MaxMP +05% | | Summon x5, MASTER 100000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Water | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | You'll receive this Materia as a prize for defeating Godo in Wutai | | (Yuffie's sub-quest). It's one of only two [Water] elemental magic | | spells in the whole game. [Water], like [Ice] is effective against | | [Fire]-based enemies. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | NEO BAHAMUT | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +02 | | Summon x2 30000 | Spirit +02 | | Summon x3 80000 | MaxHP -10% | | Summon x4 140000 | MaxMP +10% | | Summon x5, MASTER 200000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | This Materia is found in the Whirlwind Maze, on your first trip to | | the Northern Cave. Like Bahamut and Bahamut ZERO, his attack cannot | | miss. As I said, the progressive generations of Bahamut get lazier; | | in this case, rather than come down and attack, he brings the | | opponents up to him. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | ODIN | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +01 | | Summon x2 16000 | Spirit +01 | | Summon x3 32000 | MaxHP -05% | | Summon x4 65000 | MaxMP +05% | | Summon x5, MASTER 90000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect Death | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Odin and Choco/Mog are the only summons that can perform two | | different attacks. While Choco/Mog is random, Odin's attack is | | based on the enemies you are fighting. Normal monsters will incur | | Steel Bladed Sword (aka Zantetsuken), which slices them in half, | | killing them instantly. However this has a tendency to miss. When | | up against more powerful enemies and bosses, then Gunge Lance will | | be Odin's weapon of choice. This is not very powerful really, | | considering that it's a non-elemental attack. In general, I'd save | | Odin for finishing off weak enemies. You may notice Odin's warhorse | | Sleipner has six legs. Just another of FFVII's quirks. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | PHOENIX | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +02 | | Summon x2 28000 | Spirit +02 | | Summon x3 70000 | MaxHP -10% | | Summon x4 120000 | MaxMP +10% | | Summon x5, MASTER 180000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Fire | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Phoenix is very useful, because it will revive and fully restore | | any dead allies, whilst attacking at the same time. An excellent | | combination is [Phoenix] and [Final Attack]. This way, whenever the | | character is killed, they will pull off a powerful summon and be | | completely restored - handy against tough bosses like Carry Armor | | and the Weapons. You'll find this Materia on the roof of Fort | | Condor after you complete the Huge Materia quest here. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | RAMUH | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +01 | | Summon x2 10000 | MaxHP -02% | | Summon x3 25000 | MaxMP +02% | | Summon x4 50000 | | | Summon x5, MASTER 70000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Lightning | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Another of the "Standard" summons. This guy is very handy against | | machine enemies. You'll find this Materia in the Racer's Lounge at | | the Gold Saucer when you're racing to earn your freedom, near the | | windows at the top of the screen. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | SHIVA | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +01 | | Summon x2 4000 | MaxHP -02% | | Summon x3 15000 | MaxMP +02% | | Summon x4 30000 | | | Summon x5, MASTER 50000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Ice | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Shiva is the Queen of Ice... considering how little she wears, it's | | no wonder she's cold! You'll get her as a reward for saving | | Priscilla's life when you first arrive at Junon. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | TITAN | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +01 | | Summon x2 15000 | MaxHP -02% | | Summon x3 30000 | MaxMP +02% | | Summon x4 60000 | | | Summon x5, MASTER 80000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Earth | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Titan is found inside the Gongaga Reactor. Pressing [OK] on the | | right-hand side of the main core will give you an option to reach | | inside a hole in the side. Do so to reach the Materia. | | Titan is an [Earth] based summon, so it won't work on flying | | enemies. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | TYPHOON | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Summon x1 0 | Magic +04 | | Summon x2 35000 | Spirit +04 | | Summon x3 120000 | MaxHP -10% | | Summon x4 150000 | MaxMP +15% | | Summon x5, MASTER 250000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element Wind | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | I'm not totally sure on this guy's name. In the PC version it's | | "Typhon", in the PS version it's "Typoon". Since he's a [Wind] | | summon, the name "Typhoon" seems most appropriate. He's very good | | against flying enemies, but his attack, Disintegration, is a bit... | | juvenile, if you like. Anyway, you'll find this oddball in the Frog | | Forest, near Cosmo Canyon. to get there, you can either use a Green | | Chocobo or defeat Ultima Weapon, which will allow you to reach it | | on foot. The Materia is located on the highest branch of the trees. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ c. Command Materia +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | DEATHBLOW | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | D. Blow 0 | Luck +01 | | MASTER 40000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 700,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Deathblow is the name of Choco/Mog's standard attack. This one is a | | bit less cartoony, but can bevery useful nonetheless. The Deathblow | | command will cause your character to perform a special attack which | | will either cause a critical hit, or miss completely. You'll find | | this Materia in Gongaga Forest, just after you face the Turks. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | DOUBLE CUT | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | 2x-Cut 0 | Dexterity +02 | | 4x-Cut 100000 | | | MASTER 150000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | One of my personal favourites, Double Cut allows your characters to | | attack continuously. 2x-Cut will attack one target twice; 4x-Cut | | will attack 4 times, on random opponents. You'll find this in the | | Research Room of the crashed Gelnika aeroplane. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | ENEMY SKILL | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Often overlooked, Enemy Skill provides many powerful spells that | | are often very economical in temrs of MP. Attack spells like Beta, | | Trine and Aqualung, and defensive spells like Big Guard, are some | | of the more useful ones. I'll cover Enemy Skills in another FAQ, | | but basically, to learn a skill, it has to be used on a character | | who has the Materia equipped. There are four in the game: one in | | the Specimen Capsule in Hojo's lab, another in the Beginner's Hall | | in Junon, one in the City of the Ancients and one from the Chocobo | | Sage's Green Chocobo. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | MANIPULATE | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Manipulate 0 | | | MASTER 40000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 700,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Cait Sith has this equipped when you meet him. Manipulate allows | | to seize control of an enemy monster and command it. The effect | | lasts until the affected character receives a physical attack or is | | healed with [Esuna]. +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | MIME | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Mime 0 | | | MASTER 100000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost N/A | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Mime allows a character to repeat the previous action with no cost | | to MP. A character can Mime anything except someone else's Limit | | Break (they can Mime their own Limits however). You'll find this | | Materia in a cave on Wutai Continent - accessible only by a Green | | Chocobo. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | MORPH | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Morph 0 | | | MASTER 100000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Many useful and rare items can only be obtained by Morphing enemies | | with this Materia. In order to successfully morph, you have to kill | | the enemy with the attack. In theory this is simple, but in reality | | this is tricky because a [Morph] attack is much less powerful than | | standard attacks. If you successfully morph, the enemy will spin as | | they disappear, and a message will tell you what you got. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | SENSE | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Sense 0 | | | MASTER 40000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 70,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Sense will tell you an opponent's level, HP, MP and weaknesses. It | | can be found in the Scetor 6 playground after the Turks destroy | | Sector 7. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | SLASH-ALL | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Slash-All 0 | | | Flash 130000 | | | MASTER 150000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Slash-All will allow you to make a single attack on all opponents. | | [Slash-All] causes one attack's worth of damage; [Flash] will kill | | them instantly in true anime style - your character rushes through | | the enemies, and a few seconds later, the hit occurs. This Materia | | can be found in the Frog Forest. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | STEAL | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Steal 0 | Dexterity +02 | | Mug 40000 | | | MASTER 50000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 84,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Many enemies carry items. Stealing has a fairly low success rate, | | but the items you can acquire are worth it. For example, you can | | get the Zeidrich, which halves the effect of ALL elemntal attacks | | against you, from Rude. Or, you can steal weapons that are a couple | | of levels higher than what is currently available to you. For | | example, you can steal the Striking Staff from the Train Graveyard. | | If you were to buy it, you wouldn't be able to until you reached | | Junon, about 5 hours later. Mug attacks as well as stealing, and it | | has a much higher success rate. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | THROW | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | Throw 0 | Vitality +01 | | Coin 45000 | | | MASTER 50000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 700,000 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | Yuffie comes equipped with this. Basically it allows you to throw | | weapons and armour at the enemy, causing damage. [Coin] allows you | | to throw money at the enemy. Every 1 Gil causes 1HP damage. In the | | Japanese version, you can cause theoretically unlimited damage with | | this move. Unfortunately in the English version, damage is capped | | at 9999, so the usefulness is somewhat diminished. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | W-ITEM | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | W-Item 0 | | | MASTER 250000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | This allows you to use two items in one turn. Due to an error in | | the game, you can actually get 99 of any item with this Materia. To | | do so, you need at least 2 of the item you want. Using [W-Item], | | choose the item and use it on a character. Now, press [OK], then | | [CANCEL] repeatedly on the item again, and each time you press | | [CANCEL], the number in stock will increase by 1. I suppose this | | can be classed as "cheating", but I prefer to call this method in | | particular, "Exploitation of a game glitch". You'll find this | | Materia on your return to Midgar at the end of Disc 2. In the rail | | tunnel, head all the way to the south end of the line (towards the | | bottom of the screen). | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | W-MAGIC | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | W-Magic 0 | | | MASTER 250000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | In a similar fashion to [W-Item], [W-Magic] allows you to cast two | | magic spells in one turn. You'll find this Materia near the bottom | | of the Northern Cave. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | W-SUMMON | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Ability List AP Required | Equip Effect | | W-Summon 0 | | | MASTER 250000 | | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Cost | Selling Price 1 | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Element None | Added Effect None | +----------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Notes | | [W-Summon] allows two summon spells in the same turn (surprisingly) | | in the same way as [W-Item] and [W-Magic]. To get it, you need to | | win 64,000BP at the Battle Square in the Gold Saucer. | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+
