Carbuncle was a creature with a stone on it’s head that glows like a hot coal and had a reflective shimmer, like a mirror. This stone, also known as the ‘headstone’ said to bring fortune and good luck.
Also, in English, carbuncle means a precious red stone, usually convexed.
