Final Fantasy: The Spirits
Within - Airships/Vehicles
Airships and vehicles have
always been an important part of the Final Fantasy universe. When
creating the ships for The Spirits Within technology was always
changing and improving and thus the animators, artists and technicians
had to use and create new technologies over time. They constantly
had to make improvements and improvise as they worked. The Maya
and Renderman 3rd software used to created the props, characters,
and sets was upgraded several times during the four years it took
to make the film. Each time the software was upgraded, objects created
in older versions had to be imported and fixed to work. "The
Boa was the object in the movie that kept coming back, and I kept
having to work on it, change it, and fix it. It never went away."
said Steven Preeg, a Technical Director of Sets and Props.
